Here it is: the first official post on my World Race blog! For anyone who knows how I am, writing the beginning chapter in one of my stories is one of the more difficult things for me to think of and plan out. This time, there are similarities, but the main difference is that this opening chapter isn’t fiction.
This all started maybe three or four months ago. I realized my graduation was coming up quickly, and I started wondering what I was going to do after I finally got out of school and into the big world where we all reside. I knew three things: I wanted to travel, make travel films, and most importantly be able to do some kind of ministry work.
You know how you’re thinking of something, don’t even look it up on Google or anything, but then you go on Facebook and they have exactly what you were thinking of right there in the ad section? That’s basically how this went down.
Of course, my curiosity was peeked and then I saw one video after another, did a crazy amount of research throughout the website, and then I decided to go further by watching people’s vlogs on YouTube, showing an in depth depiction of what life could be like should I pursue this. I was actually going to hold off on this at first. Rather, I would spend the summer working at a summer camp in the video department and then go for the World Race. But then all of these other things I needed to do started coming up, and I realized after some thought and prayer that my plans just had to change.
So I put in my application.
This is where things get really interesting.
A while ago, I had ordered some shirts online and I had actually forgotten about one of the shirts I got. It was just a plain black T-shirt with this written on the front, “For I know the plans I have for you.” Jeremiah 29:11 It was cool that this specific verse showed up after I submitted my application.
Then, I scheduled my interview. Of course, I was really nervous. I had officially taken the first steps in what could possibly be the biggest trip of my life. I took this time to pray (A LOT) and to talk about all of this with my sister-in-law and some other friends. And once again that verse came up, “For I know the plans I have for you.” It’s pretty cool when a verse comes up a couple of times.
What about when it happens a third time?
It was the day of my interview, my nerves were through the roof, and in all honesty I was a little nauseous, but I was feeling a little sick around that time. So, I spent hours that morning praying one thing over and over again, “I leave it all to you, Lord.” For hours, that was what I said in my prayers. And just a few minutes before the interview happened, I went onto Facebook, and what should be the first thing I see?
“For I know the plans I have for you.” Jeremiah 29:11
I can’t even begin to describe the sense of peace I felt after that. The fact that this specific verse came up THREE times is just amazing. It was such a great reminder from God that He has all the control.
THE DAY AFTER my interview, I get a call. I found out I was accepted to World Race!!! I was about ready to start dancing while I was on the phone.
What better way than to start off with this story? I am beyond excited for the World Race and what God has in store for me.
