Annnnnndddddd just like that I have left Asia and am onto my third continent! Cambodia is a country who has come through unbelievable hardship and come out the other side with a joy that doesn’t make sense. I absolutely love the Cambodian people, they have such selfless and servant hearts. They all are full of jokes and smiles and are social butterflies. Cambodia was the perfect way to close out my time in Asia, here is a little summary of what my time looked like while I was there.

What city did you stay in? What was your living situation?

  • We stayed in Siem Reap, Cambodia. This was our 2nd all squad month! We all lived at an Adventures in Missions (AIM) base. I stayed with 3 of my teammates in a room with 2 full sized beds. The 2 unfortunate parts of this living situation was there was no A/C so we never stopped sweating (this is not an exaggeration) and the mosquitos at night were vicious! But other than that it was great staying with the whole squad again.

What was your ministry for this month?

  • This month was my second month of ATL (Ask the Lord)! I am definitely learning a whole new dependence on the Lord. This month again consisted of a lot of different ministries, the following were our major three ministries of the month.
    • Denae (one of my new teammates) and I volunteered to help run a children’s program for a missionaries prayer retreat in Phnom Penh. It was a blast! The children were great, we were able to teach them about the Armor of God and they shocked us with how smart they are.
    • Denae and I also were able to develop a friendship with a woman named Radhika and meet up with her several times throughout the month.
    • Our team also helped a small local shop level out the dirt for the foundation of their new store.

What language do most people speak?

  • Khmer. This language was extremely interesting to listen to but very difficult to learn. Because Siem Reap is a very touristy town most Cambodians spoke a good amount of English.

What foods did you try? What was your favorite?

  • Our diet consisted mostly of fired rice and noodles. There was not much variety because the AIM base provided meals for us but it was all delicious.
  • Some of my squad decided it would be nice to try tarantulas, scorpions and snakes but I did not have the need or desire to eat any of these.

What was the hardest thing about this month?

  • This month brought with it big changes the largest one being, new teams. In addition to this, the ministry I did most of this month was with one of my teammates and we did not get to see our other teammates as much. This was sad because it was our first month together but we didn’t get to know each other as much as I had hoped. But thankfully we have several months together and I am enjoying getting to know these wonderful people.

What was the best thing about this month?

  • I love all squad month! It is just like one big family hanging out all the time and it is a blast and a half!!

What was unexpected this month?

  • The fact that Denae and I got to travel to another city to help with ministry there was super exciting and different. I loved getting to see the different ways of life between big city Phenom Penh and tourist central Siem Reap.

Where did you see Jesus the most?

  • Jesus was most present in the way my team and I were lead through our days. The people we “bumped” into He placed in front of us for a reason and it was incredible to rely on Him to dictate our days. He knows all things and orchestrates everything together for the good of His people, and it was amazing to be a part of.

I am now working on a farm in Albania and living the small town lifestyle, which is a nice change of pace! Thank you all for your constant support. I know I have said this repeatedly but I could not do this without all of you. I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!!

So much love,

Martha Kuhn

Prayer Warriors:

  1. Recently, I have been reminded of the importance of thanksgiving. Giving thanks for the small and big things in life helps keep our eyes on the Lord constantly. Right now I am learning to stay focused on Him throughout each day by staying thankful. I encourage you to take some time and thank God for all that you have, for the hills and the valleys and everything in-between.
  1. I also would like to ask for prayer for our cook this month, her name is Ducha. She has hurt her hand and asked for prayer several times, this is big because she is not a Christian yet. I ask for prayer not only for her hand but also that we would be such examples of the Lord that she would be more curious about life with Christ.
