As word spreads, I have gotten a chance to talk to many people and explain the World Race more in depth. For those of you I don’t get to see as often, I have put together some of the most common questions I have received. There is a lot of information here so feel free to skim through and read about what intrigues you. If I don’t address something you want to know about let me know and I’ll post about it in the comments section of this blog!
Without further ado….
1. What is the World Race?
- The World Race is an interdenominational Christian mission trip to 11 countries over 11 months. It is hosted through Adventures in Missions and is aimed to serve “the least of these” while traveling in real and raw community of other believers.
2. How did I decide to apply for the World Race?
- I initially heard about the World Race on Facebook and Instagram. I did not fully entertain the idea of applying until after talking with my sister and learning of other people who have been on a World Race trip. But ultimately it was God who nudged me towards the decision to capitalize on this time of transition in my life and submit an application.
3. What countries will I be traveling to?
- Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, Vietnam, Cambodia, Albania, Serbia, Romania, Ethiopia, Uganda, Rwanda
4. When do I leave?
- I will be launching from Atlanta, Georgia in the first week of October! (That is only 6 months away!!)
5. Who will I be traveling with?
- I will be traveling with 40-50 individuals from the United States and Canada who are between the ages of 21-35. This group is called my squad and we will be traveling from country to country together. Once we are in each country we will break into teams of 6-8 who I will live and serve with each day.
6. When will you meet your squad/team mates?
- In August all the World Racers leaving in October will attend Training Camp for about 10 days. This is where we will meet everyone in person for the first time!!
7. What will I be doing in each country?
- Every day on the World Race will look a little different and will be dependent on the needs of the ministries and churches we partner with in each country. Some days will be focused on things like construction, vacation bible study, prison ministry, building relationships with people in the villages or teaching English to local kids. Other days could consist of shopping for groceries, cooking for the team and praying for the community. But I will not find out what I will be doing in each country until we get closer to leaving. I may not even know until we arrive to the ministry!
8. What am I doing between now and Launch?
- As I began to plan my summer, I knew I wanted to support myself as much as possible for the World Race. My goal was to find a job with consistent and dependable hours for the couple months I will be in Houston. Through Gods plan and provision, I am excited to say I will be the Middle School Intern at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church! This has been an unexpected answered prayer and I am looking forward to spending summer with the kiddos there. I will also be babysitting, house/pet sitting, etc. to ensure I am doing all I can to make this trip happen.
9. How will I pack for the next 11 months?
- I will be bringing one backpacking pack and a day pack. I am not quite sure how I am going to pack for 11 months in these two bags yet, but I know I will quickly learn what I can and cannot live without.
10. What are my expectations for the World Race?
- I am trying my hardest to go into this adventure with a completely open mind, however that is harder said than done. One expectation I am allowing myself to hold is that God will give me insight into His plans for my future, specifically in terms of missions. Should it be missions state-side, abroad, short or long term I am ready to follow His will and hope this trip will give me more direction.
11. What am I most excited/nervous about?
- I am most excited about all the people I am going to meet and all the cultures I am going to encounter. I am also super ready to see how God shows up and works through my team and all the people we meet!
- I am most nervous about missing the comforts of home. I have gone a week or so without creature comforts but that is no where close to 11 months. But I am confident the unease/discomfort will be 110% worth it in the perspective of expanding the Kingdom!!
12. How much do I need to money do I need to raise? Is there a deadline for fundraising?
- I must raise $18,700 by January 2019. However, my personal goal is to have all my funds raised before I leave in October. This total will cover all the in-country transportation, shelter and food. I am also personally responsible for equipment/supplies, vaccinations/medications, and personal spending money.
- A HUGE thank you to those of you who have already partnered with me!! I am feeling incredibly blessed to be surrounded by such an amazingly supportive community!
- For those of you who haven’t donated and are thinking about it. There is still time!
