I’m a BIG fan of logic. I love understanding things and how they work and why they do the things that they do.

For example, when I started playing the cajon (box drum for worship) one of the first things I did was tip it over and look inside to see what made the snare sound. Or whenever I am sitting on the bus sometimes I just overthink whether or not the person next to me came from a nice house or the streets and calculating the likelihood that they are going to try to pickpocket me.

I’m just a huge logic girl.

Sometimes it’s fun and sometimes it’s enlightening and sometimes it’s draining.
It’s frustrating to not know things and it takes energy to keep guessing and researching and thinking.

But tonight on our walk home from ministry I was reminded of a lyric from a song by Amanda Cook.
She’s says,

May we never lose our wonder.

Shoot, God. That’s really good.

In the midst of my stress and my logic and my attempt at understanding, He so sweetly said, “Maddie, don’t lose your wonder! Don’t forget my vastness, don’t forget my greatness, don’t forget me. Don’t forget that I didn’t make the world so that you could overthink it, I created it so that you could find life and life ABUNDANT (woah hey that’s my team name what?).”

He said,
Look at the mountains, Mads, marvel at the height, the colors, the sunset.
Look at the people on the bus, Mads, stand in awe at their lives, their relationships, their faces.
Look at the heart of worship, Mads, get swept up in the notes.
Look at what I made, it’s really really good, stop trying to figure it out and remain in admiration.

There’s so much wonder in the world, but I totally miss it if I try to figure it out.

So this week I’m reminding myself and hopefully reminding my readers-
Take some deep breaths and look around, soak in the fact that the sun is going to rise tomorrow morning and the people are going to eat food they made with their hands and flowers are going to bloom and grass is going to grow and the earth is going to keep doing its incredible thing.

Thanks God that I don’t have control.
