These are my hopes and prayers for all of my friends heading to college this fall because there is so much pressure on our age group in today’s society to know who you are and to have a plan.

Dear college freshmen,

I was almost you. I was so so close! If I hadn’t known about wrgy, I would be heading to college right now with all of my best friends. I would be decorating my dorm and buying my books and (too eagerly) filling up my planner. When people ask me ‘why’ I’ve decided to give up 9 months of my life to service, willingly poop in a hole, take bucket showers, and sleep outside, my answer is simply ‘because the Lord told me to.’ But, don’t get me wrong, God did not appear in my dreams or whisper this in my ear! He didn’t text me! (Jesus if you’re reading this please hml). I’m a bit confused myself but here’s what I know for sure– One day, my goals and aspirations and future plans were totally blurry. I didn’t know who to be, or what to study, or how to fulfill God’s plan for my life. I didn’t know where to channel my energy or what I wanted for myself. And then, one day, it was crystal clear. I went from a state of complete confusion and anxiety to a state of peace and knowledge and JOY!!! I didn’t do that, and neither did my college counselor or my teacher who recommended the World Race. The Lord granted me the clarity and revelation that I had so desperately asked Him for. So, college freshmen, take it from a girl who is just as confused as you. Ask Him for what you need. Peace? Friendships? Motivation? Your mom? Direction? A bagel?  And when it comes…. Praise the Lord!!!!!

My prayer for you is that you love others fiercely and without hesitation. I pray that you find the perfect balance between your academics and your social life, that you try new things and grow as a person while still remembering your roots and the morals that your parents have instilled in you since you were born. Grow, thrive, blossom, and become the person who you were born to be 🙂

Love, Lucy
