hello from Nepal!

It’s CRAZY to think that my time in Swaziland is over, and that I’m currently living in Kathmandu, a week into our ministry here! Life here is a total 180 from the way we lived while in Africa- busy traffic, people everywhere, coffeeshops as far as the eye can see… I’m definitely in my element now.

That being said, the spiritual atmosphere in Nepal is much different than Swaziland as well. Everywhere we look, down every side street and alley, there are multiple idols and shrines dedicated to numerous Hindu gods that the people worship. A few days ago, we took a trip down to the main buddhist temple in Kathmandu (and yes, there were monkeys EVERYWHERE) to pray and intercede for the people that go there everyday to worship.

Here’s a few thoughts I recorded while I was observing my surroundings the other day::

“in the physical presence of buddha, but always in the eternal dwelling of the holy Spirit. the colors here are misleading; what is meant to be filled with hope is just an empty, man-made promise of some type of fulfillment in this life. striving is obliterated, sacrifice is no longer necessary, and grace is a waterfall in the face of truth and in the loving embrace of the father. I’m starting to realize that we, as a human race, are continually searching for a peace to comfort our hearts and something to speak to our inmost being. It’s not a secret that we were created to worship something, and worship we will- but God, the one true God, the one who breathes life into our lungs and created us from dust and saves us from death and gives us a life worth living is the only thing ever worthy of any other form of worship. It’s not Buddha, It’s not Ganesh, It’s not Brama or Shiva or Vishu; it’s not government or politics or material items or relationships or any other thing we can ever achieve. It’s Jesus. It’s only Jesus. It always has been, it is now, and it will forever be sweet, sweet Jesus.”

Friends, this is a dire need. This is real, and the reality of this situation is heavy. During this month, please join me in prayer for the following things::

  1. For spiritual strongholds to be broken in this country.
  2. For conversations to take place with those we meet as an opportunity to share in the light and the love of Jesus.
  3. For the local, growing church in Kathmandu, and beyond in neighboring cities and villages of Nepal, that pastors and leaders and teachers would rise up and be strengthend in their fight for truth in this country.

The Lord is moving; we have already seen that in many ways while only being here so far for six days! join us in the fight for these things.
