Dear Kin,

This week has been full of looking into the past and seeing how life has taken me to where I am today. Friday was my last day of high school. I cannot believe that thirteen years of schooling could be easily ended through a day full of finals. It seemed too unreal. However, this ending brings on a new challenge and new beginnings. It means that this trip is becoming more real each day.

Today, I was starting my fundraising letters and while I was writing them I was thinking about how I got here. I always thought that right after high school I would go straight to college, but here I am writing a letter that will hopefully bring me sponsors for my missions trip. Then, I sat on pages thinking to myself, “Who in their right mind would jump on a plane and leave for nine months to live out of a backpack? Lilly, are you going insane?” The only answer I had to myself was, “Yea. Dude, you’re insane, but be still and know. Know that there is a reason you feel so called towards this. Know that God has a plan and that it is okay for this to be out of your own control and out of your hands. This is not about you. It is about HIM and how you can show HIS glory through you. Allow HIS spirit to use you to do great things for HIS kingdom. Don’t get caught up in the lies of “you can do it on your own” because you have already seen where that road leads you.”

While trying to figure out how to write this letter I noticed that I needed to check all the boxes for the checklist they gave us:

1) Explain how & why you are being led to serve with Adventures in Missions.

2) Give a brief explanation of the ministry.

3) Explanation of the costs and ask for financial support.

4) Close the letter, making sure to personally sign the letter/handwrite your name.

When thinking about what to even write for the first question I remembered part of a verse that completely summed up the reason why I am going, “Freely you have received; freely give.” (Matthew 10:8). This verse really reminded me why I want my future to look the way I hope for it to look and why I want to serve people through medicine.

So, to now finally answer the question. “Why are you being led to serve with Adventures in Missions?” to be completely honest, my best answer is God has given me life and knowledge of him so that I can spread it to those who need it. To see what my future life will look like and what it really means to live life with people from different cultures and spread the gospel through my work and through my words. And the second part, “How am I being led to serve?” I am being led through peace. This decision just seemed right. There were no second thoughts and all my questions are showing me what it looks like to trust and obey God. That no matter what it will be okay. Just be still and know.

I love and cherish you all!

Till next time,

Lillian Son
