Ello friends! Update: still in Costa, still eating rice and beans on the daily, still groovin with Jesus. Wanted to share a super cool, but not so typical, Jesus story!
Because I don’t mention this in most of my blogs, some of you may not know, but I along with my buddy and squadmate Zach (it’s his birthday, happy birthday homie) are what we call “Logistics” for our squad. Basically, we steward a lot of the money for our people by purchasing transportation, hostels, and lots of other fun trinkets. It’s a job that has its rough days, but also a job in which the Lord has given me so much grace and showed up time and time again.
If I’m being honest, my brain is not naturally logistic-wired. I am what some might call, a free spirit hahaha. I don’t thrive with facts and schedules and tasks. Give me some people to befriend and some ideas to talk about, and I’m all game. But nevertheless, I knew this was something the Lord was calling me into when I was asked, and ever since I accepted the responsibility, the Lord has revealed why He entrusted me with something so out of my character (Some 2 Corinthians 12:9 kinda stuff if ya know what I mean).
Last week, we got an email from our girl Taylor in Georgia, who basically answers all our logistics questions, leads us and shows us the ropes, and fights for/loves us so well. Basically there is this number on the website we log all of our receipts that, based on the expenses we have receipted and the money we have withdrawn, tells us how much cash we should have on hand (I know this sounds super boring but just bear with me people). Taylor asked us to compare this number with the amount of cash we actually have on hand. Cool, sounds simple. I counted my cash… $176. I casually log onto our Expense website and not gonna lie, my heart kinda dropped. In red print at the bottom of the page I see: “Remaining Cash Advance: $1270.76.”
YIKERS. That is NOT what we like to see, folks. At some point, beginning in September to now, there is a grand total of $1094 that I spent but did not receipt. Que sweaty hands and nervous laughter.
I didn’t even know where to begin. So naturally I avoided the issue completely for a few days. And then, on Monday, as I was talking to my squad leader Kat about the whole catastrophe, the Lord brought Matthew 18:19 to my memory. “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.” I felt the Lord nudging me to invite my people into my mess. If this verse is true, then if another believer and I agree on ANYTHING, IT’S GONNA BE DONE. Cause that’s just the nature of the Father. He loves to show up for his sons and daughters. Even when they screw up big!
So I look at Kat and I’m like, “Here’s what we’re gonna do Kat. I need you to agree that we’re going to find this money and then Jesus is just gonna bring it to our memory and everything’s gonna be fine and dandy!” Naturally she agrees to agree, but she goes a step further: “Let’s ask your other two squad leaders and Zach to pray into this with us.”
Something I’ve really learned since being on the race is that you can bring Jesus into everything. The everyday, mundane, and messy. Kevin, one of the discipleship mentors for our squad, said it best: “When you know Jesus, the spiritual becomes natural and the natural becomes spiritual.”
SO, we got all the squad leaders + my fearless logistics partner together and told the Lord together that we agree that He knows where the money is and will show us where we goofed up. We thanked Him for putting us in situations that humble us and remind us how much we need Him. We thanked Him for what we were asking Him for and trusting Him for, even though we hadn’t seen Him do it yet. My people prayed bold prayers with me and showed me grace. Not once did they attack me or condemn me for my mistake. Thank you Jesus for humans who reflect your heart so well.
And that was that. No more worrying. No more avoiding the situation. On Wednesday, Zach and I sat down and trusted the Lord with it all over again. It took a hot minute to go over everything, but yenno what? We found all the money. What once seemed impossible was easy peasy in the Lord’s eyes. And that’s why I’ll invite Him into every seemingly non-spiritual situation for the rest of my life. Because He really wants to be faithful to us in the little things and big things. He wants to invade our worlds with His glory and His heart for us. He is in everything if we just have eyes to look for Him.
I’m in this beautiful country for one more month. Time keeps on slippin by so fast!! I’m here for it though. Thank you, once again, for all the prayers, all the sweet texts, and for remembering me always. I LOVE YOU PEOPLE!!
In love and gratitude,
KT
