This blog right here is all about how scripture matters a lot to me. Scripture is the heart of the Father, the heart of all wisdom. Without it, we are literal toast.

I’ve been confronted lately with my own tendency to toss around scripture without truly knowing it. It’s easy for me to throw in random pieces of scripture in conversation, but do I really know it for myself?

I am not saying that every Christian should feel obligated to memorize the entire Bible. All I am saying is, wouldn’t it be a shame if the enemy knew the word of God better than his kids?

One of the most awakening moments in scripture is when Satan attempts to tempt Jesus by misinterpreting the Word. I often put myself in Jesus’ shoes and ask myself if I would be able to stand up for the Word if the enemy used it against me. I am honestly not sure I would know the Bible well enough to stand on it and resist the devil with confidence.

A few days ago one of my teammates mentioned how Jeremiah 29:13 became a reality to her. The Lord told Jeremiah, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” You see, she realized that she had been asking the Lord to speak to her so long without ever truly seeking Him in return. She wanted to know His voice, but she never looked into the Word to know what His voice sounds like. When she did begin to read the Bible with a desire for wisdom and knowledge, she realized that the Holy Spirit was indeed inside of her, leading her to people with an unexplainable urge. When we seek Him wholeheartedly in the Word, we find Him. When we develop a love for the Word, we are able to discern what is from the Lord and what is not in our day to day interactions.

I remember how unappealing the Bible seemed to me when I first started wanting a relationship with the Lord. It was hard for me to see how stories from thousands of years ago could possibly apply to my life in the 21st century. But the more I read, the more I realized the Lord is constantly teaching me something. How is it that what I read always seems to answer the questions I ask or encourage me in the way I need most? God opened my eyes to see that the Bible is so much more than stories. It is His breath on a page. His essence in a book.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

John 1:1

If the Word actually is God, then how could I ever expect to know Him without actually reading what He has to say? He has been since the beginning of time and will be until the end of time, which means the same is true for the Bible! Its truth never fades or changes, yet there is always fresh revelation to be grasped from it. Always.

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

Hebrews 4:12

HOW FREAKING COOL! Literally every single time I open the Word, I open it with the promise that there is something new and exciting in its pages that the Lord is longing to reveal to me. He is constantly showing me different sides of himself, humbling me with His mystery.

May my Bible never become dusty. May I never go a day without meeting with sweet Jesus and letting Him breathe new words and new meaning over me. May I never believe the lie that the bread for yesterday is enough to sustain me through today. May I always desire more! May I never know the Word less than the enemy.

In love and gratitude,

KT

“The greatest deception of the people is the kind of zeal for God which is invested without Scripture in the interest of the salvation of souls, the honor of the church, love for the truth, good intentions, usages or custom, episcopal decrees, and the indications of reason, all of which have been begged from the light of nature. These are lethal errors, when they are not led and directed according to Scripture.”
