Hey yall! My name is Katie Martin, and I am a student at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. I will be graduating this upcoming May with a degree in Chemical Engineering.

Upon graduation, I have decided to put a pause on starting my career to pursue after the Lord with only a backpack stuffed with 3 shirts and 10 garments of underwear for 11 months. (Alright so maybe a couple of skirts too, but you get my point.)

Kind of crazy, right?! Yea, I most definitely thought so! So much so, that I almost let that fear of being labeled “crazy” and the fear of the unknown and unscripted keep me from seizing this opportunity! But, I am beyond blessed by the people the Lord has placed in my life and allowed me to be encouraged by. I am beyond blessed for all the opportunities He has given me and for all the closed doors He has allowed me to face, because ALL of it (both good and bad) has led me to this point in my life…THE WORLD RACE!! So let the journey begin!

A little more about me…

I am an Alexander City native from Alabama who spent her childhood playing every little league sport and constructing fictional villages with my older brother, Josh. I also have a sweet little sister named Abby. Therefore, I am the MIDDLE CHILD (fist punch to all my other fellow “middle-childers” out there…it’s a tough role to fill). I am, without a doubt, the shortest person in my family, and my siblings NEVER let me forget it.

I am beyond blessed to have two incredible role models, Terrell and Jennifer, for parents. They have taught me so much about life, people, hard-work, and faith. They have shown me what leadership through service looks like and how peace and strength can be found by fully trusting in the Lord. I get my love of food and the outdoors from my dad and my sense of humor and direction from my mom. I am a complete home-body and LOVE to go hiking, kayaking, and camping with my family. They are truly my best friends.

Some cool stuff I’ve done…

I have been blessed to have gone on two, short-term mission trips overseas. After graduating high school, I was able to go with my home church (First Baptist Church of Alexander City) to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where we did street evangelism and hosted an outdoor worship rally.

It was my first time out of the country and my first time to see that not everyone in the world lived like me. It was truly a humbling experience, and I did not return to the states the same person as when I had left.

The following summer, I was blessed with the opportunity to travel overseas with Landmark Church of Christ in Montgomery, AL to teach at an orphanage in Malawi, Africa. My partners (Linda Holmberg and Megan Malinoski) and I taught math to 7th and 8th grade children.

Man, talk about an experience. The Lord used these kids to teach us so much about strength, resiliency, and hope. It was after this trip that the Lord placed a strong desire in my heart to one day return to the mission field overseas.

That next summer, I was given the opportunity to work at Camp ASCCA running the zip-line activities for the camp.

Camp ASCCA is located in Jacksons’ Gap, AL, and is a camp for individuals with special needs. It is a week-long camp full of outdoor games, aquatic activities, boat rides, petting zoos, camp songs, competitions, and so much more! The staff at Camp ASCCA works year long to prepare for the summer campers so they can have fun and do activities they never get the chance to do. I am so grateful to have been able to work alongside such an incredible group of people!

Whoop whoop for reading till the end…
