Have you ever wondered how we get around to these 11 different countries on the World Race?
Well, you name it, we’ve probably done it.
My squad has taken 19-hour overnight buses, trailed away on trains, walked across borders and, most recently, taken six flights to arrive at a ministry site.
So as I just changed continents, I wanted to give you a little glimpse at the craze that is a World Race travel day!
Yangon, Myanmar to Armenia, Colombia:
1. Arrive at Yangon airport at 4:30am for 8:45am flight to Bangkok, Thailand
2. Arrive in Bangkok at 12pm and enjoy a 14-hour layover
3. Depart Bangkok at 2am for Wuhan, China
4. Arrive in China at 6am and enjoy a 9-hour layover
*Last time I had a layover in China, they charged me $14 for a coffee. This time, they wouldn’t allow us to sleep in the airport. I love Chinese people…just not their airports.
5. Depart Wuhan at 3pm for SAN FRANCISCO!!!
6. Arrive in San Fran at 11:30am and enjoy a glorious 18-hour layover
*I treated myself a beautiful salad, kombucha and an enriching Target experience.
7. Arrive at San Fran airport at 2am for 6am flight to San Salvador, El Salvador
8. Arrive at San Salvador at 2pm; depart for Bogata, Colombia at 3pm
9. Arrive in Bogota at 8pm; depart for Medellin at 9pm
*Spoiler: we missed our connection. 2nd spoiler: there was another flight 30 minutes later!
10. Arrive in Medellin at 10:30pm
11. Head on pillow at midnight
We had a one-day cultural training over Colombia in Medellin and hopped on a 10-hour bus ride the day after to get to our ministry site in Filandia, Colombia.
Was this the craziest travel experience of my life? Yes.
Am I a tad tired? You bet.
But was it worth it? Hands down, of course.
Oh, and if you like math and want to calculate the number of hours for me, let me know what you get!
