”What’s this? It’s indigo, an ancient dye! It’s good for fabric.

What’s this? It’s royal tea, good for to settle your stomach.

What’s this? It’s black soap. Good for your skin”

“Come, come! Come and see! I have many things! I give you good price!!”

“Where are you from? America? Oh yes, America!! Obama!”

“How much would you like for this? For you? Good price!”

“Ok, ok. I’ll give it to you for 30. Almost free! Almost free!”

“This is good quality. What you have one? No, that’s not good quality! You need this!”

The Médina is the place to be in these North African cities! Rugs, spices, jewelry, scarves and purses hang from windows and align alleys. Bright colors, unique aromas, and loud noises overwhelm your senses. The constant buzz of energy and aggressive voices surrounds you. I feel alive here.

Even amongst the busy and the loud, the people somehow still find time to slow down and connect.  God has set up some pretty special appointments for us to slow down amongst the busy and meet them their. I have been invited into homes for tajine and couscous with merchants after a short discussion, been given a house tour of a vendors traditional style home after just admiring the beauty of the architecture out front, and enjoyed traditional tea (2x in one day) all from slowing down to make a friend in the Médina. This land and these cities are breathtaking, but I am in awe of the beauty in the people. God extravagantly displays His abundant generosity and loving kindness through these people. I love this place! I love these people! I am surrounded every day by God’s beauty and His glory. A day in the Médina… sounds invigorating and inviting.
