Greetings from
COLOMBIA!

My squad and I arrived last Wednesday morning at 12am. A bus from a ministry shelter picked us up and our team split from there. 14 of us went on the bus and drove an hour into the mountains. Of course, I got a little car sick. My team was amazing and made sure I had all the medicine and essential oils to keep me from throwing up. It worked (praise the Lord). But by the time we got to the place to sleep for the night, I knocked out.
6 hours later, I woke up like nothing happened. Just a little tired, but there it was.
The loud sounds of the city, rain and the yells from construction workers. The smell of motorcycle fumes and street food. I finally stood up to look out the window and couldn’t help but stand in awe. It was dark the entire bus ride the previous night and I couldn’t look outside if I wanted to or else I would feel sick. So there I was taking in the beautiful, old Colombian buildings and rain clouds outside my window for the first time. I had the biggest smile on my face.
We got ready and headed down for breakfast. A lady that works at the ministry treated us to the best pineapple juice and croissant. I just sat there with my food and stared at the view outside the cafe for hours, saying “hola” to everyone that passed by, smelling the sweet mix of coffee and rain, and marveling that this was finally a reality.

Wait – it gets better.

This is the view from the host home we’re staying at in San Cristobal, Medellin!
Coming to Colombia, I had entirely different expectations. I thought it was going to be hot, humid, some city, a crowded room where all of us would sleep together and oh – cold bucket showers. BUT, The Lord just loves to surprise us and blow our expectations away.
Here’s what we actually came to: cold, rainy weather, thunderstorms, the most beautiful mountains over looking the vast city of Medellin, a lovely home with the sweetest host family and SHOWERS! The water is still cold, but hey, no buckets is all that matters right now. Point is, we are here doing ministry with pastors of a church sitting on a mountaintop.
God is spoiling us here. It’s our first month as world racers. We’re all new to this, so I’ll take it. Some months might be brutal & totally unfamiliar, but God is just so kind to have us here in this moment. The people here feel like family already and I feel like I fit in pretty well (probably because I look the most Latina out my group haha).
I’m in awe. God is a loving father and I am SO excited for all the ministry we are going to do for the rest of the month. This first week consisted of meeting the church members, fellowshipping with them and learning from them on how they want to reach the community. I’ll let you all know how the home visits, children’s skits, worship nights and evangelism go as we approach them all weekend and for the rest of this month!
Love,
Jezebelle
