Month 5 on the race has got me thinking about being where are feet are.
This morning in the office a person who works for Adventures In Missions (there is a base here in Swaziland) talked about that it was his dream to go to Africa and serve there. I think that is a dream of so many people in the church, to go to Africa and serve, experience the amazing and passionate culture here. Turns out, while we so badly desire to come to Africa, the people in Africa so badly desire to come to America. Actually almost every single person in all the countries dreams of coming to America and is amazed that we live in America and has painted a picture in their heads that America is perfect and will solve all their problems. Yet we took a year of our lives because God gave us dreams of going to THEIR country.
We will never be content with where we are when we are constantly looking to the next thing or the next country. Even on this race…in Malaysia “wow I cannot wait to go to Africa!!” Now we are here and are already thinking about South America or even going home to The States.
But what would happen if we just really appreciated the place we are right in this moment? Take time to consider the space around you and absorb it into your being. Ask God what He thinks about the tree in your backyard or a flower you see on the way to work. Stop and consider the things He has done in your life.
Still ask God to give your dreams…but be content with where you are in this exact moment in time and appreciate each day He has given you.
I’m in Eswatini (Swaziland) soaking up every bus ride into town-taking time to sit and pray and consider the mountains and the trees and the people. Loving alone time in my tent, where I can journal and sleep and read without 30 (awesome) humans around me. Taking time to read in a hammock, and enjoying wonderful time in conversation with friends.
