With the announcement of me Squad Leading for Gap Year, I have received some great questions.  So here is the info you all have been waiting for 🙂

  1. What is the difference between Gap Year and what you are doing?

Gap year is a program for students 18-21 years old (college age).  This program gives students the opportunity to take a year off school (a gap year) to go see what the international mission field looks like. First and foremost this year is about growth for these students.  Growth within their personal relationship with God, growth in community, growth in knowing who they are and what they were made for. This program is perfect for students who want to wrestle with the Lord, who want to dig deep and know that God is real and better than they could have ever imagined.  Gap year is different than 11 in 11 because they go to 3 countries in 9 months. This trip follows the school calendar and is more structured than the 11 in 11. This allows for deeper connections to ministries, hosts, and community.

  1. What does Squad Leading mean?

Squad Leading means I will get to co-lead with one or two other alumni racers in checking in on the individual members of the squad, and living life alongside them.  We get the opportunity to live, work and be in community with these students who are searching for more. We get to speak into their lives and help them see more of our BIG GOD!  A part of my role is also logistical. We get to plan travel days, help plan debriefs, and read/reply to all my squad’s blogs. We will listen to the Holy Spirit on behalf of our squad and communicate what we hear him saying.   Essentially we get to be the leaders of this traveling body of believers.

  1. Where will you be going?

Alright this is the question I have gotten the most since I announced that I will be Gap Year Squad Leading, so here it is.

My route will be going to Costa Rica, Cambodia, and Swaziland.  Here is a little snippet I took from the gap year page about each country:

Costa Rica—where you’ll quickly grow to love the slow, “pura vida” lifestyle. The main focus of ministry for Racers will be partnering with local churches to share the Gospel with rural communities, especially in impoverished border towns. Some Racers even get the opportunity to grab surfboards, head to the sandy beaches, and minister to the surfer community while leading camps for kids on the beach.

Cambodia—Here you will find delicious food, open air markets and bustling streets. Cambodia is still struggling to heal from a dark and crippling genocide in the 1970s and is currently faced with a large amount of poverty and human trafficking. A lot of ministry this month will focus on investing in youth. You’ll likely spend your month reaching children through teaching English and the Bible. English is critical for the younger generations to find sustainable jobs to move forward.

Swaziland—(its name was recently changed to eSwatini). Swaziland has the highest HIV/AIDS rate in the world and as a result 1,000 of children have been left without parents. We have had a long-standing presence in Swaziland and have built a base there run by local and international staff. We partner with Children’s Hope Chest to operate a large system of care points serving local orphaned and underserved children.

  1. Will you need to raise funds?

YES! I get to raise $3,800.  This cost will cover my travel costs, living expenses, and medical insurance.  If you would like to partner with me for this journey please send a check to my parents house addressed to Adventures in Missions with my name on the memo line, or click on the donate now button on the left side of your screen.  I will also be trying to raise an additional $1000 for additional expenses for this next year. Something I learned this year is that it is not always easy to stay within the $5 per day for food budget. So this extra money will go toward treating myself to a nicer meal every once and awhile, a fun adventure, and/or new gear.  If you would like to donate toward this fund you can Venmo me @Jenny-Feicht or send a check to my parents house address directly to me. Thank you for prayerfully considering partnering with me on this journey to directly impact the next generation.

  1. What are you nervous/excited for?

Nervous: I am currently praying through the lies of not being good enough to lead these students well, I have a fear of failing them, and that I won’t be able to connect to them being 10 years older than the majority of them.  I know all these fears are lies from the enemy, So if you could, join me in praying for a covering of truth from the Lord I would gravely appreciate your partnership in that.

Excitements- I am so excited to live life alongside these students.  I cannot wait to sit and hear their stories, encourage them, and speak truth.  It will be a joy to adventure with them and partner alongside them in mission. One of my favorite parts of my own race has been getting to love our hosts well, so I can’t wait to continue doing that as well.

  1. How can we be praying for you?

As I stated above, please be praying for protection from the lies of not being good enough, and comparison.  I am boldly asking for the Lord to be moving in the hearts of my squad toward unity. For Him to prep the hearts of my squad for the incredible growth He wants to do in their lives and for each individual to be open to what He has for them.  I would love prayer for God to continue showing off in providing for me. I know that the kingdom is abundant and that God loves to give gifts to his kids, so I am praying expectantly in this.

Thanks for all your love and support! I am excited to continue blogging and keeping you updated on how the Lord is moving and working.  I am so incredibly grateful for your prayers and support, it means the world knowing that I have people partnering with me on this journey and lifting me up to the Father.  THANK YOU!
