Rain- It refreshes, removes, resets, storms, midsts, changes, calms, creates, cleans, grows, ripples, puddles, splashes, fills, floods, and destructs

Rain is dynamic and important. Life can not happen with out it.  Growth can not take place without it. But rain can also cause destruction. Floods can come and destroy cities at any time. Rivers can overflow and permenatly change the course of that river.

Rain is powerful and impactful. We need it to survive and yet there is a little bit of fear of the destruction it could cause. As I sit here watching the rain fall over the river we are staying on in Bolivia, I am in awe and wonder of my God.  I am in awe of how creative, life bringing, and powerful God really is. Rain creates ripples on the water and those thousand ripples gently rock our boat. It is a sweet reminder of how gentle God is with us when we know how powerful He actually is.

A little over a year ago I got a large tattoo of sunflowers on my back to remind me that growth takes time. Sunflowers are unique in the flower world because it takes a whole year of watering for the stalk to be strong enough to hold the head of the flower. I feel like the lord has spoken blooming over this year. The last several years have been the years of watering but the lord is sweetly bringing me into the year of blooming. Honestly I don’t know what that looks like or what to expect but as I sit here and watch the rain I hear the tender whisper of my creator telling me, “it is time to see the bloom.”  So I guess I will expectantly wait to see what the bloom will look like. I hope it will look similar to a sunflower because they are my favorite. But who knows the Lord is always surprising me by showing me things I didn’t even know I wanted or liked.

For the last couple of years I have asked for a word from the Lord for that new year. The words the lord has given me for this year are reckless and wild abandon. I don’t know how blooming will play into the reckless and wild abandon but I am excited to experience it. I don’t even know what reckless and wild abandon means yet, but I’m sure over the course of this year the lord will reveal the meaning to me. I just get to sit and wait to see the bloom of it. What a sweet gift.

As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth. Hosea 6:3

May he endure as long as the sun, as long as the moon, through all generations. May he be like rain falling on freshly cut grass, like showers watering the earth. In his days may the righteous flourish and prosperity abound till the moon is no more. Psalm 72:5-7
