“Build My Life” by Housefires (click link to listen)
As I said in the last Sing a New Song blog, throughout my World Race journey, I am seeking to become as armored with the Word of God as possible. Its very important that I know what I stand for and what I believe is true in God’s Word.
I will not only encounter many different points of view from the people I meet in different countries, but also from my teammates. I have gotten questions from people asking, “How will you deal with so many different view points or denominations?”
The answer is simple: Its all about the foundation.
In Matthew 7:24-27, Jesus says, “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
There may be different religious affiliations among my teammates, but we are all focused on one thing: Jesus and bringing His Kingdom.
And with Jesus as the foundation of our life, our house will not fall!
In the song, Build My Life, it professes, “I will build my life upon Your love, it is a firm foundation.” It says, “Show me who You are, fill me with Your heart, lead me in Your love to those around me.”
Ive been asking God to give me His heart, His love for His children.
Sometimes it blows my mind that God actually listens to me. I love kids, but I don’t have much experience with them. In praying for a heart for His children, I also prayed that I would encounter actual children and get to show them how radically Jesus loves them.
That being said, I am so happy that, for Month One on the World Race, we will be partnering with Kids International Ministries, or KIM!
KIM is an organization whose mission is to “meet the needs of abandoned children and the poor by “showing” them the Gospel.”
We could be helping in the nursery, tutoring the kids, helping in the birthing clinic or leading devotions. We might be distributing daily food and medicine. We could be doing construction or helping with disaster relief (The Philippines is still recovering from a super Typhoon a couple years ago, as well as one that just hit this past weekend. I am still unsure of how the area we will be in has been affected.) Most importantly we will be loving on these amazing kids and showing them Jesus’ love through our actions.
If me and my teammates go out into the nations with the Heart of God, then I can’t wait to see how many lives He will transform through us.
I want to go out in to the world, and show the woman who has been trapped in prostitution, the kid who has been abandoned or the mother who has let drugs be the king of her life, that there is a different King who is kind and loves her and has already forgiven everything she has ever done; all she has to do is choose a different foundation.
In the acoustic video for this song, Housefires explains how this song came to be. It was a surprise to me that this song was hard for them to write! The part of the song that they started with was the bridge,
“And I will build my life upon your love it is a firm foundation
And I will put my trust in you alone and I will not be shaken”
They wrote this song when they were in a place of transition in their lives (just like me), were they didn’t know what was going to happen next (also me).
They thought to themselves, “If I were to build my life around one thing for the rest of my life, what would it be? What holds?” Their answer was simple: Jesus. His love.
Sometimes we don’t know what to say, we don’t know what to do, we don’t think we are equipped enough to do whatever God is calling us to do. When I say we, I mean me. Hi, hello! I have no idea what I am doing! I don’t know what is going to happen next. All I can do is move forward with Jesus as the foundation for the way I live my life.
When I go out into the world I want people to look at me and say, “Who taught her to love like that?”
“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.” 1 John 4: 7-12
I am officially over 50% funded for my World Race Mission Trip! Thank you so much to everyone who has donated! At this point I need about $7500 in order to be fully funded. I am hoping to be fully funded by the time I leave on October 5th! If you would like to sow in to this ministry by making a donation, you can do so by clicking “donate” in the upper right of this blog!
Next week I will be posting a special edition in the Sing A New Song Series, so don’t forget to subscribe so you are updated as soon as it goes live!
