Hi everyone!
First off, my sincerest apologies for not posting sooner. We’ve been super busy and don’t have wifi at our house and really when I’ve been writing, it’s just been to help myself process. But anyway, still no excuse and I’m sorry!
This blog is just a bit of a summary of the past month so far. We’re in Valle de Los Angeles (valley of the angles), Honduras. It’s a cute mountain town about a mile above sea level and 40-45 minutes outside of the capital of Honduras, Tegucigalpa (pronounced teh-goose-ee-gahl-pah). This is our “all squad month” so the 35 of us plus our squad leader and squad mentor are staying together in a 4 bedroom house with 3 bathrooms. Honestly, it’s a blast. Getting to know and work with people outside of my team has been so much fun. I’ve been challenged to grow in many different areas just from seeing the strengths of so many people on my squad. It’s been great!
Our ministry this month has been at a foundation for disabled adults. Each team is assigned to a different house and we have been helping with whatever the tias (Spanish for “aunts” – they’re the ladies who take care of the individuals in the houses) need and building relationships with the amazing people there. This has been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster with different challenges each day. God has brought about so much growth in all of us just through having to wrestle through different questions brought up through this ministry (how is God glorified by this; if God is good, why does He let this person be in so much pain; how do I show someone God’s love if they don’t understand me; why won’t He heal this person, etc.). It’s honestly been great.
I’ve also gotten to practice Spanish, a lot. I love this language so much and being able to communicate in it gets me soooooo hype. I still have a long way to go, but it’s great ??
We don’t have internet at our host home, so that’s part of why I’ve been a bit MIA. We do have coffee shops in walking distance that we can get okay wifi at, so that’s a blessing. I’m at one right now actually.
Ways you can be praying:
– a number of my squad mates aren’t fully funded, they bring so much to this squad and we wouldn’t be able to function as well without them, so please be praying that God will provide (also feel free to comment and I’ll point you in their direction so you can help)
– health/healing. So many of our people have gotten sick- flu, blood infection in throat and lungs, strep, appendicitis, bacteria that caused hospitalization of one of my teammates, colds, parasites, etc.
– wisdom and ability to listen to the Spirit as we minister to each other and the amazing individuals we get to work with
