Hello All,
welcome again to my blog. I graduated high school today and found it appropriate to document the event. In the words of my principal “your high school graduation is the most important moment in your life until this point, other than your baptism…but you don’t remember that so it doesn’t count”. While I agree with him, I find it crazy how much pressure is put on to this time. This important life milestone is stuffed into two hours in a glorified Hogwarts robe, a reupholstered cereal box as a hat and a sunburn that I didn’t discover I had until I attempted to escape my graduation dress a couple of hours ago. While I have many fond experiences of today as well, I have struggled to put too much significance into this time. Mostly because God includes mini graduations throughout each of our lives. Your first time wearing makeup, first kiss, getting your driver’s license, attending your last class at Steamboat Springs High School. While some are less celebrated than others, I am slowly realizing that even if I had become a YouTube sensation by tripping on my gown while walking across the stage to get my diploma, it wouldn’t matter. This is because I didn’t spend four years working towards it. I spent each day working towards something new. My dad always says “live in the now” I suppose that is sort of what high school is like. Each milestone collects for great rewards later, but in the moment, you are simply dropping your brother off at baseball practice, or turning in a 10 page essay on Anti Catholicism. Sure I am now a graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, but that is only a glimmer among the other things God has destined me to be: a missionary, a pilot, a student, a musician, a graduate. Congratulations class of 2018, I wish you the best on all your future endeavors. And to all my fellow world racers, see you in a month!
