Today we celebrate the fact that our amazing, loving, grace-filled, ever present God died on the cross for our sins. He in fact disturbed the universe. This quote from The Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock begs the question, do you dare to push the limit of what is expected from you, in order to do something great.
God never had to save us, we deserved the death that we were on track for, however He wanted to be with us and He loved us so dearly that He took the blame and died just so that you and I could live. And in this He went in knowingly that most would not accept this act of love, but He did it anyways. This changed the course of not only our lives but of the whole world, and caused the greatest disturbance of the universe that there ever was or ever will be. You see, Christ set the example for how we should live our life.
This amazing sacrifice got me to thinking, if we are suppose to be Christlike and “take up our crosses” and follow God, knowing to expect pain and discomfort from it, why do we so willingly settle into what is comfortable? If we know the price of following Christ will lead the world against us, why do we still let our sinful nature take over and take the comfort it so desires?
One of my biggest prayers that has been heavy on my heart as I prepare to leave, is that I wouldn’t hesitate when asked to do something unconventional or that terrifies me for the cause of Christ. I know this trip will be one that I can never fully be prepared for, but I hope that God will allow me the ability to go wherever and whenever he leads. I know that when we “disturb the universe”-jumping into the plan God has for us-amazing things will happen, good and bad, but all for the glory of God. I hope that like Christ, I would disturb the normal pattern of this world every chance I get, cause I wish to be like my Jesus.
