I planned in 2016 to travel to South America for visiting amongst other things Machu Picchu. This Incan City on top of a mountain in the midst of rainforest vegetation was my priority. But instead I ended up travelling to South Africa – which was breathtaking too.
For me it’s just a blessing that I had now during the WorldRace the opportunity to visit Machu Picchu. When I did the application I never thought that I could do this in Peru. But it shows me how God even knows the little and not really important wishes of my heart and that he even cares about them, too. I didn’t pray for getting there, I didn’t tell anybody that I would love doing this – it just happened! So amazing! God is a God who knows our heart and our dreams and I think he loves to surprise us as well!
I hope you enjoy watching to this video with this little but essential background story.

We took a van from Cusco to Hydroelectrica for 55 Soles (=16CHF), both ways.
The ride was almost 8 hours long, the roads were graveled and curvy.
At Hydroelectrica you can take a train to Aguas Calientes or hiking there. We did the 2 hours hike to move ourselves a little and to save some money.
After the hike along the train rails we checked in at our Hostel.
Next day, we had to get up at 4am. We ate quickly our breakfast and went to the bus terminal for getting to Machu Picchu. (I recommend everybody to get up early and booking the entry ticket for the timespan from 6am to 12am.)
Once there we booked a guide for 10 dollars per person. You don’t have to do this in advance, there are on site a lot of guides avalaible.
Freddy, our guide, explained the historical background and gave us enough time for taking pictures…and pictures…and more pictures. ๐ ๐ ๐
After the beautiful view of Machu Picchu we entered the Incan city.
After 2 hours the tour was finished and we had time to hang out there till noon. We decided to keep track after the lamas we spoted before.
We enjoyed spending some time there with a beautiful view before heading back to the hostel.
The next day we went all the way back to Cusco.
Some impressions of the week we stayed in Cusco. A beautiful and huge city about 3’400 meters above sea level where Incan heritage and Spanish colony join together.
