This post is a little late, I apologize. My team and I left Peru for India on April 5th. Here is a summary of our ministry last month.
We partnered with Calvary Chapel Church in Cusco, Peru. We lived in the Sunday School classroom at the church.
Some of our ministry this month included leading youth services, planning Vacation Bible School, going on prayer walks, spending time in intercessory prayer, and joining church leaders for worship and prayer nights.
During the last youth service of the month, I had the opportunity to share how the word “unworthy” has affected my life, and how God is replacing it with the words “chosen,” “valued,” and “worthy of being loved.” At the end of the service, we had the kids throw away negative words that had been spoken over them and pick up a new word and Bible verse that reflects who God says they are. It both broke and filled my heart to several girls moved to tears as they considered their identity and roots of hurt or insecurity. We passed out a rose to each person that night, a reminder that God sees each of us as beautiful and precious.
One of our favorite ministries was Casa Verde, a girls’ orphanage. We did a few projects at the orphanage. We took the girls to a park and on a hike. We also just spent time with them, braiding hair, eating ice cream, or just talking and giggling.
My theme word for the month is “challenge.” I was challenged in many ways, including community. I was challenged to cling to the Lord instead of people when things get difficult. I challenged myself to wake up early and have time alone with God. I was also challenged to die to myself and my own desires.
Overall, though it was a challenging month, it was a month of extreme growth. I experienced joy and peace that surpassed circumstances. I will always be thankful for Peru: the ways it showed me new things about God and myself, the sweet friendships I made, and the great beauty in the land and its people.
