I’m not fully into the social media popularity concert.

Reason # 1 I just have a lot of hear and now real life things going on. I choose to live in the moment and not for the world to always be in the loop of.

# 2 Jesus walked with a mindset of day to day living even when he knew what was coming. There is power in refraining from the tendency of the world.

#3 I feel that when my focus is solely on social media I miss a lot of kingdom opportunities. It’s only a means of communication not communication itself.

#4 there is more daily time spent on social media than on any other activity. I feel that in my life if I choose to spend hours a day on facebook or instagram then I start to find my value in it.

This subject for me is a hard one. God created us to be creative and if all we do with social media is scroll then aren’t we wasting a blessing?

I feel that when it comes to wasting my time I want to create and cultivate. It doesn’t have to control your life or even direct you decisions daily. I see this a lot where people stop what they are doing or stop a conversation to take a picture and immediately post it to a story. The social media fad has me a little confused as to why we choose to live outside of this beautiful creation that Gods given us called relationships. The hear and now has a lot of power for we will never be able to return to where we once were in time. To me I find that my daily choices are made in the moment for the betterment of my heart and the people around me. If you find yourself taking pictures for only the purpose to post them I would challenge you to where you get your value from? I feel that when this is brought up there is an underlying truth that most of us on earth want to be loved and cared for seen and heard. This is true all of us want to be wanted and most of us use social media to fill that desire. If you were to dedicate the time you spend on social media and invest it into meeting people face to face what would change in your life? The problem is not social media it is what it has always been.

As humans since the beginning we have chosen to make decisions based on what we want, not what’s best for us. If we look at the bible we can see countless stories of how people wanted what they never received. Social media is no different we want to be known and loved and find wasted time and emptiness. If you look at the parable of the talents ( Matthew 25:14-30) the man hid his gold underground thinking that would bring his master great pleasure and making him a good man for not losing the gold! You see what the man thought would bring him fame brought him to a place of emptiness. I am not a man that is willing to put my worth into social media. Scrolling on social media is not what I have been created for nor do I believe is a good pastime.

I think Ecclesiastes 3 explains this so clearly there is a time for everything and in that time I find it hard to see scrolling on facebook or instagram checkins.

Proverbs 11:1-3

The Lord detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with him. When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity

Social media has potential to be amazing and I believe that our own selfish desire has changed the process of its intention.( Project make social media social).
