In high-school someone looked at me and said “I don’t feel like you have an ‘outside my comfort zone’ spot. Like, nothing scares you.” Let me tell you, I’ve found what is outside my comfort zone. It’s big, scary, and sometimes I wonder if it is bigger than the boogie man.
So if you haven’t watched every Veggie Tales ever created that last statement might have made you wonder if I’ve totally lost my mind (always a possibility). But, I grew up watching Veggie Tales and to this day love them the most. As a child they taught me BIG things in a simple format, as an adult they remind me that BIG things are usually quite simple.
I have a lot of favorite Veggie Tales songs (I may or may not be able to rap every word to the song about Jonah in the belly of the whale…) but a song that often tumbles around in my brain is the boogie man song.
“God is bigger than the boogie man, He’s bigger than Godzilla and the monsters on TV. God is bigger than the boogie man and He’s watching out for you and me.”
As kids the biggest and scariest things we can think of are the monsters under our beds or the creepy shadows skulking around the window. As adults the big scary things often aren’t the ones we can see. They are harder to grasp with physical hands and haunt our minds and hearts.
The boogie man looks a little different, but he’s still there.
My boogie man comes in the shape of…you guessed it….
Fundraising has always been outside of my comfort zone. I’ve never like having to ask others for money or help. When I saw that the World Race is $18,200 and that each participant has to raise all the money, I almost walked away in defeat right then. Even in the last 10 months as God as revealed time and again that He is oh so faithful in the things He has promised, I’ve still been nervous and unsure. But a couple of weeks ago God said
“Dude. I’m bigger.”
And out of nowhere the words “God is bigger than the boogie man” came to mind. So maybe it’s silly to say that fundraising is my boogie man because I did choose the World Race knowing fundraising was involved. But I’m saying it anyway.
So where does my birthday fit into all this talk of boogie men and monsters under the bed? Thanks for asking! It fits perfectly!
So, in honor of my birthday I’m doing a FUNdraisier! And its gonna be so great.
I am asking YOU to partner with me at just $5 (that’s one coffee from Starbucks!)! For the first half of September (Sep 1st-18th…my birthday) any and all donations received will go towards a super SUPER fun thing-For every $20 raised a lucky human will get to throw a water balloon filled with paint on yours truly!
Those shenanigans will be recorded for your viewing pleasure.
My September goal ($10,000) is only $800 away and my November goal ($13,000) is only $3,800 away!
God is and always has been bigger than the boogie man, so let’s prove it by throwing paint balloons on each other 😉
