So you all may be wondering what happened in Honduras since I haven’t blogged since then. First, it was a busy month ministry wise but it was also one of my favorite months so far. As a team we partnered with a foster care organization called Legacy of Hope in Santa Rosa de Copan. We didn’t spend much time watching the kids,  as our main point of ministry was helping out on the construction of the new building and different work projects around the base. Coming from the construction industry before the race may be the reason I loved this ministry so much.

As a team we were able to complete many projects throughout the time here. The main project and the first one we got completed was painting the newly added second floor of the house we were staying at. We spent 5, seven hour days on this projects. During these first five days we spent most of the time talking and listening to music together as we were all working in the same area. The rest of the time we were split up working on smaller projects as groups of two or three. These projects included building a simple couch, fixing the face of a playhouse, and constructing two small sheds to cover mechanicals on the property. We also attached shelves to four bedrooms in the house and put together three bunk beds for the rooms as well. We also worked on painting the outside of this new building. For most of these projects we were given an image of what they wanted the project to look like and had the freedom to implement our own strategies to completing it. The ministry wasn’t the only great thing about this month.

The loacation of the ministry was also highlight of time in Honduras. We were on a ridge overlooking more of the mountains in the area. The weather in this region was also a great addition. Most of the days were cloudy and only reached the lower 80’s. At night the temperature would drop to the sixties and was perfect to sleep with the windows open in the bedrooms. Since the town was also one of the safest in Honduras we were given the freedom to walk into the town at any time and explore. We spent times at the coffee shops and shopping at the different clothing stores as well in the town.

Another amazing thing about this month was the ministry hosts were super hospitable and we loved spending time with them. We always had supper with our main hosts, Matt and Marianne Spangler and their 9 children. They also had two other couples helping out in the ministry that lived in the community. They were just a couple years older than our team so we both enjoyed each other’s company during this month. We spent two night playing games at their place and the guys also spent 3 nights playing Spikeball at the community soccer fields. The fellowship spent with everyone was great and also nice to have a piece of home.

During the month we had two great adventures and also traveled to meet two other squads on Thanksgiving weekend as well. The first adventure we did was traveling to a zip line tour in the town over. We spent an hour crossing six zip lines starting with the first one a thousand feet above the gorge below. We had breakfast at a small local restrauant before traveling to a hot spring location as well. We spent another two hours here enjoying the pools. This was a quick day trip but the next adventure  we took was a two day one. The two day adventure started by traveling 5 hours to the location of the Mayan Ruins. Once we arrived around noon, we took time to eat at a restrauant. We then walked about a mile to the ruins where we started walking around the different sites. Near the end of our time there we happened to run into one of the other teams from our squad. It was a great surprise and we made plans to have dinner that night in the town. The next day we slept in and went to a coffee shop before starting our journey back around noon. This adventure was awesome and also relaxing. The squad event called The Awakening took place on Thanksgiving weekend. Since there was two other squads serving in Honduras they invited us to one location so we could share our stories with each other.

As you can see this month was filled with many great memories. This is why it is one of my favorite months so far on the race.
