Here is a short and sweet recap on my time in Malaysia.
After flying to a new continent our entire squad met up for a debrief. Tammy (our squad mentor) flew out and was ready for a week of filling up and resting before we headed into the home stretch. Here we debriefed how our new teams were going, spent some time exploring Kuala Lumpur, much like downtown NYC – aka crazy culture shock from Africa, and was able to sit in some trainings and worship enjoying fellowship with each other.
After the debrief time was over we headed into yet another ask the Lord month. My team had talked some about this time before our time of debrief but had not made any definite decisions. In order to best spend time in prayer and really focusing on what the lord wanted from us that month.
As we talked and recalled some of the challenges that were set before us at debrief we came to a conclusion that we wanted to expect big things of God this month. He had big plans for us and we knew that we didn’t want to get in the way of what he had planned. We took a few hours one morning to sit in prayer, worship, and speak out what we heard. We took a piece of paper and began to write things on it that we wanted that month or that we felt the Lord would provide for us, what we expected of him. Now I don’t want this to come off as something that we did in a selfish way. We truly sat and listened to the Lord and wrote them down. Things we heard from him and wanted to be able to pray into and then recall and turn back to praise when he did. Some of them were also a simple desire of our heart. Something we wanted to pray that if it was within the Lord’s will he would allow to happen for us, his children.
Here are a few examples…
– free housing: check (and all month at that)
– ability to bless a local: check
– For myself to spend some time with dogs: check and check
– For Fabienne to visit a Swiss school she dreams of teaching at
– free food: check
– a church/small group we could connect to: WOW did he provide this one!
– a pool: a silly one but such a nice desire the Lord granted
– A connection for myself to be able to go to Australia after the race: check
– a family setting for us to stay with: check
Something I quickly learned from our 4 days praying and listening is that the Lord does provide.. and then some. And he gives us the desires of our hearts. I look back 4 months later and am still seeing things the Lord provided for me and my team in that month that we didn’t even realize. He is just soooooo good to his children.
