What makes me ME?
My parents felt the call to missions before I was ever born, so I might not have had too much of a choice!
My dad taught school for two years in West Virginia, then we moved to Virginia to a handicapped children’s home where he was the maintenance man. After being there for 7 years, we flew over the water and landed in Kenya, Africa. My parents helped pastor a church there; my dad was the business manager; we stayed for 8 years before we moved back to Ohio.
I started getting involved in school as a teacher’s aid the year after I finished high school; no college for me. And I kind of stayed involved with teaching school ever since. Our community of Amish Mennonites always seems to have a need for teachers in our private church schools, so I had found my spot. After 4 years of teaching, I moved back to Kenya, Africa, as a teacher for the missionary kids. I loved being back in the country that I essentially grew up in. I didn’t actually live in exactly the same area as my family had lived for 7 years, but I got to go there quite frequently. My 4 years of teaching school in Kenya were a challenging time in my life. I loved it! I was growing in Jesus; able to reach out to more of my friends there, make new friends and know that God was using me. But I missed my family, and I was also realizing that I needed a break from teaching school soon.
So in June of 2016, I moved back home and started working for my dad as his secretary. I also found a part-time job as a barista in our little town’s coffee shop on the square. For a year, I enjoyed what I was doing (I still enjoy it!); but I also felt the call to move back into a mission of some kind. And I found Adventures in Missions and thus the World Race!
I was so excited about it! But it looked like a big thing to sign up for – and the amount of money I had to raise looked like a mountain! God showed me that this was going to be His thing; He was there before me, leading me and preparing the way. He gave me a peace and I know that He will make this possible in His own time. I got this picture in my mind of my foot stretched out, ready to be set down on a specific spot. I didn’t know which direction my life would take. But then God was nudging my foot to land firmly on the ‘doorstep’ of the World Race. I’ve set my foot down – He will show me where my next footstep will be.
What makes me ME? I’m the daughter of the King! I’m seeking Him and in doing so following Him to each of the countries on Route 2 of the World Race August 2018!!!
