Last month we had a team-time in which we put together our ‘World Race Resumes’. We all joked that we would use these in place of our actual resumes when we returned to the states because who wouldn’t hire someone who has been ‘love tapped by a car a handful of times and been a okay’? I’m certain many employers are looking for that kind of enthusiasm and resilience in the work place nowadays. After I added more and more experiences, skills, and achievements to my resume I realized this year had already been filled with so much and didn’t think there could possibly be more! (Although, I do know that so much more will happen; it’s the Race after all!) Here I am less that two weeks from our ‘resume day’ and I’ve already added another job to my work experience section of the resume. This month I am in Romania working as my host’s personal assistant (PA). His name is Raul and he is easily one of the most popular and busy persons I have ever met. From the moment my team entered the van he asked if we knew what a PA was, someone guessed ‘production assistant’ and he simply laughed. He said he would need one of us to be his personal assistant and I figured it would be an opportunity for me to get to know my host really well, serve him the best I can, and get a taste of what being a PA was like.
It’s already been a wild ride the past few days and as one of my teammates said, “We’re going to have some stories from this month, I can feel it.” I’ve been running three cell phones, two emails, two Facebook accounts, and the trinity of Twitter/Instagram/LinkedIn (as well as my own accounts!) the past few days; although it can be hectic from time to time, I’ve been having a blast being called Captain and calling his Boss.
It’s so much fun to challenge myself to write in the shoes of a different person and in addition to taking stress off of this busy pastor, I’ve been about to exercise that writing muscle by answering emails, sending out updates, and messaging connections on behalf of him. I got to develop a connection (and leave with a funny story) with their oldest son on the second night in Draganesti when I went to get the plans for the following day. I walked next door and as I was chatting with his wife I was suddenly put on a facetime phone call with their son as the rest of the family buzzed around me. I had never met this kid and yet I was becoming friends with him thousands of miles away. (How truly wild is this life we live, right?) Each day he says the phrases ‘goody-goody’, ‘caput’, and when I mentioned him calling me ‘Captain’ earlier…he actually calls all of us Captain. He’s certainly a character; I look forward to what this month will bring as his PA and hope that my service will lighten the workload he tackles each day.
There’s so much more that has already happened and I’m sure an abundant amount of stories will come my way! I’ll definitely share them with you all…and I’ll definitely be posting the World Race Resume at the end of the race as well. I promise there will be oodles of stories when I’m finally ‘caput’ and you’ll be thinking ‘goody-goody’ (I hope) as I share them!
