It’s crazy to think that we have the opportunity to have an intimate relationship with God. We can actually feel the difference when we stray from God because He wants our relationship to be so close with Him. Intimate is defined as very friendly, or very personal or private. The original spelling was intime, from French, from Latin intimus “innermost,” from intus “within.” The related verb intimate means to hint or suggest. Intimate is also a noun meaning a close friend or associate. God created us with a longing for intimacy, intimacy with Him. We were created to fellowship with Him. He wants us and He desires us.

Isn’t that crazy?! God desires us. He wants us. He wants to get close to us and for us to draw close to Him. I kind of wrote a blog about this earlier how God desires a friendship with us. It takes both sides though. You can’t have a real, genuine relationship without putting in effort. I was reading an article that described intimacy with God like this, “Intimacy never involves just one person. As the old adage goes, “It takes two to tango.” God has gone to great lengths to dance with mankind. From the time He walked with Adam in Eden to this day, His desire hasn’t abated or changed.” Never changing. That’s who God is. It’s what makes our relationship with Him so awesome. No matter what we do, or say, or think, He’s always going to be there. When we think of the word intimate, God is probably not the first thing that comes to kind lol. I think the reason that God chose the word intimate is that intimacy involves vulnerability. It involves letting down our defenses and showing who we really are. No hiding. God wanted us to have this kind of relationship so badly that He gave the ultimate gift, His son. He’s waiting for us to share our hearts with Him.

The way to have an intimate relationship with God is simple. It’s drawing near to Him. This sounds so easy, but we all know how life is. Life can honestly be terrible sometimes. All we see is our problems and we don’t look to the one who can change the problems or give us the strength to get through them. It says in the Bible that he is our strong tower, our refuge in time of need. We cling to Him and He draws near to us.

We also need to spend time with Him! Crazy right?! He wants to hang out with us. he wants to hear us yelling and screaming and crying and laughing and everything in between. Like I said earlier, how can we be friends with someone we don’t even get to know? Trust is built over time. We can grow in our confidence with Him as we get to know Him. He desires everything. the artcile that I mentioned before said this, “He desires to hear about every thought, desire, and dream….There is nothing you cannot say to God. There is nothing in your heart or thoughts He wants you to hold back from Him. He doesn’t want you to burden yourself with some yoke He longs to bear (Matthew 11:28-29). Consider this: Nothing ever takes God by surprise. He is aware of every aspect of our lives (Hebrews 4:13). Yet, He still loves us and desires us with an everlasting love.”

Peace out till next time!
