Month four was one of my favorite months on the race, and Mokhotlong, Lesotho was one of my favorite places. Our ministry that month consisted of a lot: preaching on Sundays, praying for people at the hospitals every morning, gardening, planning a women’s event, etc…

But one of my personal favorites from that month was prison ministry. Once a week our three teams, or about 19 of us and our translators would walk to the local prison. When we got to the prison each week, we would start by praying before we went in. The security guards would also take our phones for security. My teammate Sharon described the prison-like this, “Imagine a large courtyard with benches around the perimeter and no ceiling, just the open sky, a dirt floor and brick walls on the outside. Men of all ages sitting on the benches at the perimeter. Towards one side were a few prison workers/security. In the middle were about 20-25 black and white plastic chairs set up in 4 rows. This is where we sit.”

We entered the courtyard through a hallway, and we could hear the men inside singing, not only were they singing, but they were praising God! They were dancing, making music with homemade drums and tambourines. It surely didn’t feel like a prison to me.

After we arrived, we would sing a few worship songs together, a few of us every week would share a testimony or a message. I believe God indeed called all 19 of us to Mokhotlong for a specific reason. Some of my teammates either had parents in prison growing up, or they themselves have been in jail. God was able to use those stories and testimonies of redemption and grace that month! Every week we were there, more and more men gave their lives to Christ.

Throughout our time in Lesotho, we saw over 40 people saved. The majority, due to prison and hospital ministry. Join me in praying for the men of that prison and the future teams that will have the opportunity to share the love of Christ with them!
