These are some of my most used apps so far on the race. If you are leaving for the race soon or planning to travel internationally, I highly suggest these:
- Some sort of bible app, I like YouVersion
- VENMO- Everyone has it. Don’t be the one person that doesn’t have it. It’s easier than PayPal. You’ll need to download it before you leave because you need to verify it with your phone number. And don’t forget your password 😉
- XE Currency – the easiest way to know exactly how much money you are spending
- Grab/Uber- Grab is used in Asia and relativity cheap (I was in the Philippines, Thailand, and Malaysia and every country had it) Uber was used in Africa and Central/South America (South Africa, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador all had uber)
- Communication apps: WhatsApp – it will be the best way to keep in contact with people you meet around the world. GroupMe is what our squad uses when we need to send a message to everyone.
- Marco Polo – a genius video messaging app to keep up with people back home
- Google Drive – to share things like pictures and files with your team (I’ve enjoyed having google photos to back up all my pictures to and it helps with storage)
- Schwab app – because you will want a Schwab account! $10 ATM fees? NO THANK YOU! (Schwab reimburses all international bank fees at the end of every month)
- Duolingo if you want to make learning new languages a priority.
- Some entertainment app like Spotify, Apple Music &/or Netflix, and the podcast app for long travel days
- Google Translate is great for communicating with people who speak different languages. Make sure you download the language before trying to use it with no data/wifi
I hope these apps make your travel really great! What app would you add? Post it in a comment below 🙂
