We all have a story.
A big piece of my story involves service work and international missions work. This piece became apparent during my first trip to Haiti in 2010. It was a few months after an earthquake struck and killed over 100,000 people. My eyes were opened to a new culture and my heart was broken at the poverty I saw. At the end of my first week, I knew I would go back. I couldn’t stay away from the people who’s joy seemed to never end and hearing the stories of how God worked in their lives. Now, 7 years later, I’ve been back to Haiti 8 times and the total time equals 38 weeks there.
Through Haiti, I was introduced to Adventures in Missions and the World Race. I knew I loved serving, but honestly thought the World Race was crazy. After thinking, praying and discussing it for months, I knew I had to trust God and apply. As we all do, I said, “God, if this isn’t your will, make sure I don’t get in.” Well, I am here, writing this so I’m believing God has me here for a reason.
I think God calls certain people to missions, at certain times and to certain places for a reason. Let me explain this- we’re all different and we all have different stories. Sometimes our stories have a big impact on people, enough to change someone’s life. I think God is calling me on the World Race because of the story He is writing in me. It could be things I’ve experienced or lessons I’ve learned that might impact people i’ll meet while on the World Race. And, It could be the lessons I’ll learn on the race or those experiences that change the people I meet after. I’ll leave all those details to God 🙂
I also want my story to inspire people. I want you to know that although you’re not perfect, God has a beautiful plan and story for you. I never would have dreamed, 7 years ago when I went to Haiti for the first time that this is where I would be today. But now, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
So, let’s put some action to this. If you know God is writing your story and you are excited about my story, please, consider donating. That’s my invitation. I think it’s a beautiful thing when stories can collide in this way. This trip can only happen through support of people like you.
We all have a story. What’s yours?
These are some of the ladies I served with during my internship in Haiti. Their stories had an impact on me.
