Hey!
As I am writing this, I am currently in Heidelberg, Western Cape, South Africa. It took about 24 hours of in-transit travel to get here from Manzini, Swaziland. It is about 2 hours from Cape Town with a local population of 6800 people according to one of the locals. It’s a very quaint town, and the locals are friendly. Everything is pretty much within walking distance.
I am with an all girls team this month as the guys are having “manistry” month aka all guys month. The women I’m with this month are: Savannah, Ashley C., Morgan, Lauren, Sharon, Amanda G., and Eva. Since there is another Amanda on my team this month, I’m going by Mandy.
We will be here a total of 19 days. We are working with a local church and will be helping with pre-school, home visits, bible studies, helping out at the Bible college. I’ve already been able to spend some time with people at the Bible college, and it’s been fun. They have a sweet community and such a spirit of unity. Their jokes can be corny, but they humor me and make me smile. It is the same but different. Experiencing the culture is intriguing and cool to experience.
I’m staying in a house that’s equivalent to a house in the states. It’s SOO NICE and a great place to rest. Last month was all squad month, and my introvertedness definitely came out living with 40 people. It’s nice to be here. There’s often music in the background and nightly popcorn. I have had a lot of quiet time lately, and I am currently reading Scary Close by Donald Miller. I like this quote: “…to risk yourself on love. It meant diving into the unknown, where there are very real dangers, but mostly rewards.”
As some of you know, I was sick this past week. Praise the Lord I am feeling much better and like a new person! Thank you for your prayers.
At the end of this month, my squad will meet with another squad on World Race in Johannesburg to have a spiritual retreat called “The Awakening.” Then we will go to Nicaragua for another all squad month.
That’s an update. I hope you are doing well.
Love,
Amanda/Mandy
P.S. I stopped doing videos, because I can’t get the local wifi to upload the videos. It’s just too slow.
