Travel Day!
I am so sorry for the gap in my blogs! I left Ecuador, as you know, and we have not had consistent wifi since. But I wanted to tell you that I am indeed in Peru and I love it!
Our travel days were many, but it was genuinely fun. My team all were amazing and where lack of sleep and many days of traveling usually bring out the worst, I think we had the most fun and more laughter than we had in awhile. We left Ecuador by bus and boarded about 2 more buses, as well as a plane, and a boat. My many days of traveling included random bag checks late in the night in Peru, playing in the ocean in Trujio, my team having a picnic with pizza on the roof of a hostel in Lima, sleeping on a sidewalk outside at a airport terminal, and loading all the supplies we could need onto a boat to take to our new (remote) home on the amazon river.
I was really surprised at the landscape of Peru when we came in. For about 24 hours all we could see were sand dunes and salt flats along the coast with no inhabitants in sight. It was awe striking and weirdly desolate at the same time. Trujio look much like a ghost town since people stay inside in the days since it is hot hot hot. The town was all dirt and cement. There were shops but everything was boarded up. You may see the occasional tuk tuk slowly making its way down the dirt streets. Yet just 10 minutes away was the beautiful coast that was alive with activity. I felt like I was back in San Diego. Then we flew into Iquitos, a city that can only be reached by plane. It was gorgeous, green for miles and miles while the river winded through it. I had never seen so much green in my life. We had just gone from the most desert place to the jungle in about an hour time by plane. We took a bus to our boat and passed the most gorgeous village homes. They were covered in palm branches that had yellowed which contrasted the green and dark red of the dirt all around. Somehow I had gone from dirt and concrete to the Jungle and green in the same day.
Seeing all this landscape amazed me at God’s creativity. He made landscapes so vastly different for our pleasure. But no matter how beautiful a landscape looks to me, it amazes me how we, as humans, are his most beautiful creation. I don’t know about you but I really don’t feel more beautiful than a powerful ocean or the deep jungle with its vines and colorful birds. But I am because I am made in His image. It’s just kind of cool when He reminds me how much I am loved and cherished by Him.
Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!
