This week we worked above the clouds! Literally. Or in a cloud if you caught me in the afternoon. To be honest, I kind of hope that we don’t live in clouds in heaven because they are really cold haha. But for real, it was gorgeous. We were high up on this hill that was crazy steep amidst cows and sheep. We moved bricks up and down this high hill for about 7 hours every day to help build a wall around a safe house for girls in sex trafficking. I got the opportunity to play with some of these girls while I was up there. We played Uno and soccer and sang songs. The girls were so young. I was honestly expecting the girls to be in their late teens, but instead the girls we met were very young. Like 12 years old, which blew my mind.
Dunamis is an organization that works with these girls. They take about 20 in at a time and teach them to live and what love really is. These girls are taught to make jewelry, sew, and cook. Some of the girls rescued come with babies of their own. Dunamis work to teach these girls to love/care for the babies since many of them are not attached to their own children or are incredibly young. The risk is that these girls will sell their babies into organ trafficking, which is not uncommon when the girls lack resources and attachment to their babies.
This amazing home is run by a man named Boris and his wife and three little kids. His mother and a few more volunteers help teach classes to these girls as well. They sell the jewelry the girls make in the states and give the girls the money, teaching them they can make a profit outside of a brothel. If any of you would be interested, they need people to sell the jewelry to churches and groups. All you have to do is go online to dunamisfoundatin.com and they ship you jewelry. After you just ship the profit and excess product back. Seriously, please check out their website, it explains so much more of the amazing work they are doing! This organization is actually based out of Scottsdale, AZ and if you would be interested in hearing more about them, Boris will be at New Covenant Lutheran Preschool next month. The date and time is on their website. I know they would also love prayers while they finish the new girls home and move the girls into this home in the next few months.
this hill was steep! We moved blocks from the top to the bottom in an assembly line fashion. PC: Aly Badinger
It was absolutely gorgeous. And Chilly. We were so high up that if we were not looking down at a cloud, we were in one.
We looked a little scary but the only way not to be coughing up dust all night was to cover every inch. We were still crazy dirty under all the layers. I think it is a good look:)
Different mountain but same cool view. Thank you Aunt Dana for the backpack!! It has gone everywhere with me:)
