This year I spent my 26th birthday in Swaziland and it was perhaps the best birthday yet. One of my absolute favorite birthday traditions is sharing what I like to call “birthday wisdom” with friends and family throughout the day. You get to share one piece of wisdom for each year that you’ve lived. Since I’m on the other side of the world from most of the people I do this with, I figured I’d share the love through a blog!
I’m genuinely excited to hear what you think, and I’d love if you comment with any pieces of wisdom you’ve learned over the years.
- If you’re somewhere cool and there’s a sign that says, “do not pass this point,” it’s usually a good idea to pass. That’s where the best views are
- God can’t be for you what you’re already being for yourself
- Eat more cookie dough – it’s usually better than the cookie
- Be interruptible
- Tell the people you love that you love them as much as possible
- You won’t regret lifting up the rug you brush things under
- When you call yourself or someone else “basic” you’re stripping them of their intrinsic value
- You really can’t dance and be uptight
- Let go of what other people think
- Sometimes the journey to find an answer is more valuable than the answer itself
- Growing in gratitude will change your life
- Pancakes are better than waffles. Crepes are better than both
- It’s okay to cry when you rip your favorite pair of jeans
- The glass is half full. Actually, if you adjust your perspective it’s probably overflowing
- Best friends who will walk through life with you and laugh/cry with you are one of the greatest gifts in life
- God is so much bigger than the little box we tend to put him in
- Free people free people
- It really is okay to eat ice cream for dinner sometimes
- The sunset is equally beautiful each day – sometimes its beauty is just hidden behind the clouds
- What comes out of your mouth is a pretty good indication of what’s in your heart
- Comparison and jealousy smother joy
- Stop looking with your eyes for things that can only be seen with your heart
- We really don’t need as much stuff as we think we do
- Let go of the earthly reputation you’ve been trying so hard to earn and take up the spiritual reputation that Jesus already earned for you
- Love and fear cannot coexist
- Ask more questions
Thanks for reading – here’s to another lap around the sun!
