Wow. As of yesterday, I am half way through my journey on the World Race. Where has the time gone? As I write this, I am sitting in our hostel for the weekend in the beautiful country of Malaysia. I am looking back and marveling at my time in Haiti, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, India, Nepal and now Malaysia. I am in awe of how many amazing people I’ve met, the challenges I have overcome, and the amount of spiritual growth I experienced in such a short amount of time.
In Haiti, I feel in love with the bible. Reading scripture was no longer a chore but instead something I have developed a deep desire for. I became aware of how fruitful fasting was and I learned to distinguish His voice.
In the Dominican Republic, I worked on my prayer life. The month prior I realized that I could only sit still for a few minutes during prayer. I gradually increased the amount of time I spent in prayer. I read The Circle Maker, and became more intentional about the people and things I prayed for. I started spending more time doing listening prayer and became amazed with the ways God showed up. I learned that there’s not just one single way of worshiping. My definition of worship used to be the idea of singing worship songs at church. Now I see how it can be done in so many ways: playing a worship playlist and singing, art worship, putting headphones in and jamming out to worship music on my own, and etc.
In Jamaica, I learned what obedience to the Lord looks like for me. For me it was doing what the Holy Spirit prompted me to do even though I was scared. Things such as stepping up and praying for someone, leading prayer, speaking something over someone aloud that was laid on my heart and then feeling an incredible peace afterwards that I couldn’t explain.
In India, through previous inner healing and lots of prayer I was finally in a place emotionally where I was able to call God my father and felt comfortable referring to Him as father while praying.
These are just a few of the things I’ve learned in the last 6 months and am looking forward to sharing with you more of what’s to come in the next 5 months.
