Today I got a card in the mail. It was a birthday card containing a sweet and thoughtful note. & initially I was confused. Not in a bad way, but a good way.
This card was sent to me by one of my squad mates. This is now the second handwritten note I’ve received from this incredibly sweet human being. (And you know, I just feel like there aren’t enough handwritten notes being written in the world, but anyways.) I literally met her a month ago and spent a total of 10 days with her in the heat and humity of Gainesville, GA. Our tents were set up next to each other for most of Training Camp and we tried our hardest to reserve seats next to each other during sessions and meals. She is now one of my dearest sisters.
At camp, I shared some of life’s pain with her and she prayed and cried with me in understanding and compassion. And then a couple of days later, we switched spots.
The reason I was flustered by this card, was because I didn’t know people like that existed. Society made me believe that there were a number of social milestones you had to get over before sending snail mail or sharing personal struggles. Otherwise you were being extra or too open. But the love of Jesus isn’t limited or deterred by the lies and unfortunate ‘rules’ of this world. This love does the ‘extra’ things to bless and encourage others.
I haven’t posted a lot about training camp, only because I have both too many words and also not enough. But if you were to ask me to describe it to you in one word, I would now say love.
The Lord showered His love upon me in more ways than one.
He set me free from a number of strongholds in my life.
He revealed and affirmed many things about myself.
He placed amazing believers around me. People that I grew to love in such a short amount of time. And will continue to love and fight for and grow with.
He gave me 5 bomb teammates.
And He blessed me with more amazing sisters that I get to do life with.
And just to be clear:
This post is NOT about a folded up piece of cardstock engulfed by a white stamped envelope. It‘s about the love of Christ being poured out not only to me now, (by way of a birthday card), but to the 11 countries we will be going to. I am so excited to know that my people love well and are only going to grow in the way that they love. And that many people are going to experience this love and hear the gospel of Jesus spoken out! WOOO!!!!! I AM PUMPED!
“The Lord must really love us a lot to put us on the same path”
GIRL. I agree widd DAT!
