It has been 2 weeks in Cote d’Ivoire and so far we have been in Abidjan, Bouake and now we are in San Pedro.

In both Bouake and Sand Pedro we have done evangelism, through Trucker Ministry.

Cote d’ivorie plays a vital role in transit trading for neighboring landlocked countries. For this reason throughout the country of Cote d’ivorie there are truck stops where truckers will stop for food, rest and maintenance of their trucks, before they venture off onto their next stop. At this point of rest is the site of the Truckers Ministry.

During the ministry while the truckers are resting and have down time we go up to them and spark up a conversation. Usually the truckers will be either Muslim, Catholic or Evangelical Christians and after identifying what group they affiliate with, we share the gospel with them accordingly.

Having spoken to quite a few truckers at this point, I have had the opportunity to ask a few of them what they believe. Interestingly, as some may have identified with a particular faith or religious belief, I couldn’t help but notice that many of them didn’t really have a knowledge of what it was they truly believed. Many willingly admitted that they chose their faith based on what was passed down to them through their parents.

Admittedly I myself at a time in my life, would also say I’m a christian but if asked certain questions, I could not explain them, which brings me to this point.

If you find yourself in this predicament where you too are not sure of what you believe, take some time and think about it. It’s easy to spend so much of life focused on doing what pays the bills or investing in things that will make our lives more comfortable, but what about your spiritual life, isn’t that also worth investing in?

Is there an after life? Is there more to life than what our jobs and family have to offer us? What do you believe? Have you just followed in the footsteps of your parents or other family members and affiliated with a particular religious group just because that’s what it’s always been? Do you have doubts about what you say you believe?

My only recommendation here is to stop and think to yourself, why do I believe what I believe and if you’re not sure, I want to encourage you to invest in yourself and take the time to think it through and do a little research if necessary. Ultimately, I believe God is bigger than our questions but you first have to be honest with yourself. What do you believe?
