Hello Everybody!
Just a little about me:
My name is Shelby Downing. I am 23 years old and currently a graduate student at Western Carolina University. I am studying to recieve my masters in school counseling! I have a graduate assistantship through my program and I have the opportunity to teach college freshman in a transitional course! In addition to being in school full- time, I also nanny the cutest three year old in the world & work at Long Horn Steakhouse on the weekends as a waittress.
For a while, the Lord has been putting full- time ministry on my heart. It was a calling that I ran away from, because I did not feel “equipped” or “good enough” to complete the path that was put in front of me. Meanwhile, for years the World Race has been something in the back of my mind. The World Race had been brought up and mentioned to me by many people in my life. Again, I put this thought into the back of my mind. However, when I went to summer camp as a high school leader this summer, the Lord completely rocked my world. I finally surrendered to the Lord’s calling on my life and put my yes on the table. For the next week, I knew the Lord was prompting me to go somewhere & quickly. I started praying that the Lord would lead me and point me into the direction He wanted me to go. Thats when BAM the Lord put the World Race once again to my line of focus. I have always been passionate about missions, and been involved since a young age! So I applied, got in, and here we are!
My purpose statement that I have for my life is “To earnestly seek out those who need help & win their souls for the Lord.” I cannot think of a better way to do this than serving and meeting the needs of those in 11 different countries. Serving and helping others is what I am truly passionate about, and going on this trip is genuinely like a dream come true for me!
