Life on the Race looks different each day. So, I thought it would be a good idea to show y’all what a day in Cambodia looked like. On December 27th, I took a picture each hour, no matter where I was or what I was doing. Without further ado, here is 12/27/18…
6:25 AM// In Cambodia, this is when I woke up. This was primarily because the sun was up, therefore, the dogs in the neighborhood were barking, loudly. This is where my day began!
7:25 AM// I would typically do my quiet time and read a little before I started to get ready for the day. We had to leave the house at 7:40 to be able to make it to ministry on time. Fun fact, we rode bikes every day to and from ministry!
8:25 AM// Breakfast time! Our hosts for the month ran a library cafe and an English school, so we would work at the cafe and teach English. We ate breakfast at the cafe and at least one of us had pancakes each time!
9:25 AM// This morning, Laney and I stayed and worked at the cafe, while Summer, Makayla, and Kayla went and volunteered at the local trauma hospital. I was working on updating the cafe’s menu!
10:25 AM// Well, I didn’t move much. I did finish the menus and moved on to creating a prayer card for our ministry hosts. I had a blast being creative while serving the ministry and our hosts.
11:25 AM// Yep, another hour where I didn’t move. That’s not completely true. When a customer would come into the cafe, I would, of course, tend to them. But, this hour I was still working on the prayer cards, just the other side this time!
12:25 PM// Today, I had a one-on-one with the awesome Makayla. During our time in Cambodia, our team decided to have quality time with each other on a one-on-one basis. It is a great time to cultivate deeper relationships with each other. So today, we chose to eat at our favorite lunch place, The Noodle Man!
1:25 PM// I am still on my one-on-one with Makayla, but we have moved from The Noodle Man to the riverside! There is a little park that you can just sit and relax or walk around. This was actually moments before we saw our Squad Leader, Josh, walk by. He didn’t notice us, so we decided to scare him.
2:25 PM// After lunch, Summer, Laney, and I head back to the house to lesson plan and rest for English class. Kayla and Makayla are holding down the fort at the cafe. Today, I needed a little pick me up in the form of Lemon Tea from the Pink Shack. It reminds me a lot of sweet tea!
3:25 PM// We finished planning and preparing for our class, so it was nap time. There were a lot of other things that I could have been doing, but I was about to do a field day with a whole bunch of kiddos. I needed a power nap!
Okay, I accidentally slept through my 4:25 PM alarm and didn’t get a picture. So, pretend there is a picture of me in my bed, sleeping, right here!
5:25 PM// English Class. Today, the Church where we typically had lessons was having some work done in it, so we couldn’t be in our normal classrooms. Instead, we had “field day” with all the kids. Here are some of our students playing Extreme Rock, Paper, Scissors. It was a HUGE hit!
6:25 PM// Laney and I decided to do a workout video before dinner. Our bedroom was large enough that we could do our workout on the side and not have to move any of our mattresses!
7:25 PM// Dinner time! Tonight, we had pumpkin soup. We were blessed with a host that cooked great meals for us, but the best part of dinner was the conversations that we got to have with our host family!
8:25 PM// Kayla and I were on dish duty. As a team, we would switch who would do the dishes each night #WhatTeamLifeLooksLike
9:25 PM// Time for Team Time. Every night that we have ministry, we meet in the evening to talk about the day and things that we can grow in. Tonight was Laney’s turn and she shared her testimony.
10:25 PM// We decided to watch a Youtube video before we headed to bed.
And that is a typical day in the life of a World Racer in Cambodia!
