It has been officially one week in Guatemala. Even though I have only been here for a week I have seen and encountered so much. Here is a picture of the base I am currently staying at with my whole squad.

We are being treated so nice here and we are so lucky to have this nice of a place. As I have learned our next countries will not have as equipped sleeping quarters but I’m excited for the adventure.
My squad and I have been honored to be able to celebrate Guatemala’s independence day! Now this brings me into exactly how I got famous in Guatemala. Guatemala celebrates this day by parades with loud drums, trumpets, and other instruments that I haven’t seen before. The people gather around and watch the parade go by for hours. Their national colors fill the streets and people come in their native dress. So some of my squad mates and I decided to become interactive with the parade and dance along to the band within the parade. I know, this doesn’t seem like anything crazy but because we are white American girls dancing in the street we began to draw a lot of attention to ourselves. In Parramos, the nearby town that we visited, it is rare to see any Americans and especially ones who begin dancing to the native festivities. As we began to dance we noticed several Guatemalans videoing us but we didn’t think anything about it. After that, we went on with our day and later came back to the base. One of the team members here came running up to us and said “have you guys seen this video”? To our surprise it was the video of us dancing and it had 3.6k views on Facebook. I guess because here in Guatemala they are more of a quiet culture the sporadic dancing from us was something that’s out of the ordinary and entertaining.
I have had so much fun following the video and seeing the reaction that has come from it. Hopefully we can use this platform to show even more people Jesus! The link to the video is below, watch it if you want a good laugh. I love Guatemala and I can’t wait to spend the next three months here.
