Just like that, month 1 in Chile is over. We finished our debrief in San Pedro de Atacama, Chile on Friday and left for Peru that night.
This morning we made it to Cusco, Peru!
The travel took 2 long days and 4 bus rides, 2 of which were overnight. But we are excited to finally be here!
A few blogs ago I explained that my squad gets to live out the motto “Life is ministry and ministry is life” in a unique way. Peru is our first chance to do that. Each team on our squad was asked to pray, research, and follow the Holy Spirit’s leading for what we will be doing during our first 10 days here in Peru.
One thing my team gets the opportunity to do during these 10 days is go to Machu Picchu, which is an Inca citadel located in the highlands of the Andes Mountains in Peru. In order to get to Machu Picchu though, you have to start from the city of Cusco.
So as my team prayed about and researched what we wanted to do outside of Machu Picchu, we decided to stay in Cusco.
While in Cusco, my team will be doing a few different things throughout the city.
- We want to do park ministry. This is where we will go to a park and have our slack line, a soccer ball, arts and crafts, and other things that we will invite the locals to do with us. This will give us the opportunity to get to know the people here and their culture.
- We also want to find some kind of service opportunity whether that be feeding the homeless, washing people’s feet, or something else that the Lord puts in our path.
- Another thing we are looking to do this week is find a high school nearby and then find out where the high schoolers hang out. From that we are hoping to engage in relationship with them, encourage them, and show them the love of Jesus.
- The last thing we want to do is really invest in our time as a team and our time with the Lord. Those are both very important to us.
We are excited to see where the Holy Spirit leads us this week and what he will do through all of our experiences.
After these 10 days, we will head to Lima, Peru and meet up with the whole squad again. There we will be working with YWAM (Youth With A Mission) and we will do some more training.
Below is a video of one (or two) seconds of each day in Chile! Enjoy the little recap 🙂
