While working at my care point, my shepherd (the guy herding our team at the care point) named Shitulele told my team something that really stuck with me. He said, “We often ask God for things, but how often do we sit back and thank Him for everything he has done in our lives.” My response to his obviously rhetorical question was, “Not often”.
I think it’s really easy for us to get wrapped in our brokenness and pray to God to make us more like Him (which is obviously great). But to recognize the Goodness around us and thank Him for that is so so special.
Especially here in Swaziland this is so important! Living somewhere where we have no power, no wifi, and barely any water is really easy to get wrapped up in what we don’t have and miss out on what we do. But let! me! tell! you! Jesus is so present here. The people of Swaziland are beautiful and the landscape is breathtaking. I hiked a mountain that was in our backyard yesterday, WHAT A DREAM! We have so much to thank him for! We have toilets! And food! and the fact that we get to opportunity to do this Gap Year is such a gift. I’m thankful for my supporters and family that without them, I wouldn’t even have this opportunity to spread Jesus in the way I am. He is so good.
