we were to spend the next two weeks in a southern beach town called Puerto Viejo. it is pretty touristy so it has presented itself with people & cultures from all over the place. for the first four days we were working with YWAM, the same organization we worked with while in Malaysia. Rasta, the man who lead the YWAM base we stayed at, has a mission that came from the Lord that states “adoration to reach the nations” & he believes that Puerto Viejo is the place to do it. our ministry while we were there was to do door-to-door evangelism with a local church & helping clean up the base property there since it was just started within the past year. from there we went to stay with a family nearby that the YWAM staff knew. the family was from Arkansas so it was a relief to be around people who primarily spoke english. Max, the dad, moved his family down to Costa Rica a few years ago with the hope of expanding an organization that changed his life, in a place he has grown very fond of. he is partnered with Teen Challenge, a ministry that works with people who have struggled with drug & alcohol addiction in the past but who have been made new in Christ! at this certain base we were staying at, the Teen Challenge house was for men & there were 14 of them. although we weren’t able to speak directly to them as easily as we wish we could have, there were a few guys who also spoke english. with the assistance of the bilingual men, we were able to hear quite a few testimonies of the guys living there & it was without a doubt one of the coolest things. the fact that within a matter of months these men have put in the effort to transform their lives was truly amazing. the fact that we were able to experience it for a few days, even more amazing. along with getting to know the guys, a few of us would go out each day to evangelize in nearby neighborhoods & hand out Spanish bibles. many people believe who God is, but less people pursue Him so we were able to facilitate that process by giving them the Word. overall, it was an awesome experience & God showed me yet again how willingly & excitedly He shows up in the new relationships you establish with people. these weren’t only friendships we were making, but these are our brothers & sisters we were meeting for the first time & the next time will probably be heaven! how sweet!
