Sawubona!! (Hello in Swazi) I have written three blog posts over these past weeks (including this one) that I am posting now because I finally have WiFi. In this post I wanted to share an update about my time in Swazi so far. I’ve been here for about three weeks and it’s been amazing. Swazi is like no place I’ve ever been. We stay at the Adventures in Missions base in Nsoko (a very small town). We are surrounded by beautiful mountains and tons of land.
Our weeks usually look like this: Tuesday to Friday is ministry and Saturday to Monday are days off. Our ministry days are at a Joyela care point. A care point is a place where kids from the ages of 4 to 18 come after school to hangout, get a meal, and on some days have discipleship classes. Up to 100 kids come everyday. There are over 40 care points in Swazi and they are building even more-praise Jesus!! Care points are so crucial for these kids. For most of the kids, it’s the only meal they will get in a day and a time where they will get poured into and loved. A woman named Thuly runs the care point where I am working and she is the sweetest, most wonderful women I have ever met. She is only 29 and walks an hour and a half just to volunteer at the care point every day. Talk about a woman of God. Our role at the care point is just to pour into the kids with love and Jesus. I have loved these past few weeks of getting to know the kids and trying to learn all their very complicated names…lol.
When we aren’t doing ministry we are just hanging out with each other and spending time with Jesus. There’s a grocery store that isn’t too far away from us but that’s about it. We have another two months of simple living and that makes me so happy and excited. So far I love Swaziland, the people, and the culture. The people here are so friendly, welcoming, kind, and joyful. The kids I have met so far feel like people I’ve known my whole life. I can’t wait to see what God is going to do in the next two months and for this country forever.
Much love,
Nicole
