Dear Swaziland,

Our time has come to an end, I must now say goodbye. I am so thankful for the three months we’ve spent together and the many parts of you that are so lovely which cause this goodbye to be so hard.

Thank you for your quiet and still spirit. I will miss our early, breezy and calm mornings. I will miss your breathtaking sunrises, sunsets and  starry nights. I will miss your slow pace and your constantly roaming animals. I will miss your natural alarm clock in the form of roosters. I will miss your clothes-chewing cows. I will miss your pouring rain after a deathly hot day. I will miss your lightning storms that leave me awestruck.

Thank you for your many faces. I will miss all the “sawabonas, yebos, and  ninganis”. I will miss your joyful worship. I will miss your openness in conversations and desire to learn more. I will miss your inviting spirit; your desire to make me feel like family. I will miss your laughter, even when it’s caused by my mispronunciation of Siswati. I will miss your children that I now call my children. I will miss how tenderly they say my name, call me aunty and run to give me a hug to say hello and goodbye. I will miss their soft-spoken voices. I will miss their sass, spunk and chaos. I will miss their kind hearts that love quick and deep.

This goodbye is proving to be quite difficult. We’ve had so many beautiful and testing moments together. You have been a place of refreshment and reestablishing my identity in Christ.

Much love,

Mykayla
