Korhogo:
Korhogo was a pleasant surprise. We were prepared for the worst and instead were blessed beyond belief by our hosts. They went above and beyond to accommodate every want and need we had. They invited us into their home and more so into their family. They truly treated us like daughters.
Our hosts, Sherri and Gozie, are long term missionaries there. Gozie was the first Christian in his village and remains strong and proud of his Lord. Their family is beautiful, kind, and absolutely selfless.
Our ministry included renovating a shipping container to be turned into offices, storage, and potential rooms to further their ministry. Sherri took us to multiple hospitals to pray with and for the staff and patients. She introduced us to several spectacular human beings and disciples of Jesus that just radiate His love and live out His commands. With language barriers, we walked around the schools, businesses, and mosques in constant prayer that the Lord would speak to their hearts. We loved our neighbors by praying for them. I’m so thankful for our first month. It was essential for our team that we would relearn how to pray and how to depend on prayer.
Sunyani:
Sunyani, Ghana was incredible. It was all squad month and our host was Elim City church. This is the kind of church you want to be a part of. They are on fire for God. They praise with all they got and wholeheartedly serve the Kingdom. They don’t meet merely once a week. They’re there everyday for one reason or another. When they’re not in service or having discipleship classes, they’re out evangelizing.
The thirty five of us split up everyday and went out witnessing to the surrounding areas. On our first day, my team and I stumbled upon a technical boarding school. We were invited in and with their undivided attention we got the opportunity to share our hearts and answer questions about Jesus. By the end of our visit that day, nine young adults stood up and asked God to change them forever.
Then we met Mercy. Mercy is a hospitable, gentle, generous, joyful widower we found in a small food stand behind the church. We quickly began visiting her daily. We would pray and laugh with her and she would make us plantains. One of my teammates started posting about potentially raising some funds for her dream restaurant. Within days, she bought some boards, paint, and concrete. It was no restaurant but it was certainly a blessing. We built a small, stable seating area for her costumers to enjoy her food. She now attends Elim City church.
Prek Toal:
We are currently in a floating village in Prek Toal, Cambodia. I can hardly put into words how INCREDIBLE it’s been. Our host Joyner is an inspiration. She’s twenty three, knows five languages and lives out such a beautifully intentional life. I am so extremely grateful for her and her mother. Also, they feed us Korean food. I didn’t know this about myself but I think I’m actually Korean at stomach. My teammate Kep says she’ll make me a sign for my kitchen one day that reads “as for me and my house, we will serve Korean”. All that to say, the food is ridiculously good. Joyner and her mother are amazing individuals and I’d love to work with them again.
Our ministry is teaching the local kids English and Bible stories. I’ve never felt my existence be so purposeful. I adore it. And I adore these babies. I love every moment of it. It is impossible not to fall in love with these children. They’re so respectful and love learning. They’ll spend all day with you doing laundry, tossing and catching water bottles while reciting their ABCs, and being our personal boat chauffeurs. Just yesterday nearly ten of them surrounded me and helped take out my weave. What a magical student-teacher relationship. I cannot express to you how in love I am with this place already.
