Month one in one word – Prayer
In a predominantly French or tribal language speaking, Muslim and/or animist culture, how do you even begin to do ministry in Korhogo, Côte d’Ivoire?
I’ve spent more time in prayer these past two weeks than ever before. We’re learning to actually use prayer as a weapon and not this dainty, weak obligation right before you fall asleep at night. We go to hospitals and pray. We go in the streets and pray. People come to see us and we pray. We go see local missionaries and we pray.
That was a stretch at first. Just continuously walking around praying but then it hit me like a bus… it makes so much sense. We speak to ears, but God speaks to hearts. We’re limited to verbal communication, but God is not. We shouldn’t turn to interpreters but to the one who whispers to our souls.
I’m so blessed and grateful that this has been my first month. I’m so glad we started this thing with an incredibly simple, yet undervalued lesson of ministry- Prayer is effective and essential and a mighty weapon God has given us to use. It’s time we pull it out, dust it off, and boldly pray to God for salvation here.
