Surprise! I have a new team!
At the end of month 4, teams get mixed around. This happens because the alumni squad leaders (people who have done the race before and who travel with us for the first 5 months as mentors) are about to leave and new squad leaders need to be raise up!
This is also an opportunity for people to get placed in new leadership roles, and to experience the race with different people on the squad!
So- Submerge is dead.
RIP
2018-2018
This team has been hard and challenging, yet I have learned and grown so much over the past 4 months that we were able to spend together. We had to fight for each other every day, and through that came beautiful connection and intimacy for which I will be forever grateful.
But, as sad as I am to say goodbye to the people that I’ve experienced the race with thus far, I am even MORE excited to introduce you to the people that I’m going to be able to spend the next 4(ish) months with!
First I’ll introduce some people that you may recognize from my old team:
When I first introduced Charla to you all, I said that she is steady and that she had already been a presence of peace in my life. She is someone who is an encourager and she loves so deeply and so well. Little did I know then how true that would be. Charla IS steady. She IS a presence of peace. She IS and encourager and she DOES love so deeply. She is also a servant and she has eyes to see the needs of others and she is funny (so funny). Charla stepped up in big ways to meet my needs on our last team (as well as the needs of others) and I am so thankful that our journey together on the race gets to continue. The leadership of our squad sees this and for all of these reasons, she has been chosen to be the leader of our new team.
When I first introduced Emily to you, I said that she is joyful. I said that she is an amazing leader who really sees and is attentive to those she leads, that she is inviting and makes those around her feel loved and cared for. I said that she has a love in her heart that is unifying and has the ability to transcend language and cultural barriers. Those things are all so true, and I have been able to see that through her connection and love with the people that we have met and encountered these past few months. I have also seen another side of Emily, a side of depth, determination, and dedication. She is influential and powerful and she is just awesome. She chose our team time and time again, even when it was hard, and I am so excited to continue to walk with her through these next few months.
I am so blessed to get to spend even more time with these girls, I know that I have so much to learn from them still.
Meet the rest of my new team:
Kat is open, she brings vulnerability and openness wherever she goes. She speaks truth in love into situations and because of this, her opinion is so sought after. She is a strong leader who steps up when others step back and she is a great example of what it looks like to follow the Lord fearlessly. Kat continues to point our team back to Jesus and to His truths, no matter what we are doing. Kat is fun and she brings a steady peace to our team by keeping a cool head regardless of the situation. She’s pretty great and I’m so beyond pumped to get the opportunity to be on a team with her.
This time around I am traveling with a co-ed team! Meet our guys:
Matt sees details. Where I focus more on the ‘big picture’, Matt dives deeper into the things I glaze over. He is a problem solver and a worshiper. When something goes wrong, or something brakes, Matt is the first one to offer up an idea for how to move forward, or how to fix things. Matt is a musician and constantly helps lead our team to worship, no matter what is going on. Matt isn’t afraid to jump right in. A lot of Matt’s strengths are areas that I would consider to be my weaknesses, I know I am going to benefit so much from being on a team with him, and seeing his perspective on things.
Hunter is a wild-card. He is an evangelist. He has a heart for lost people and also a heart for his community. He serves without expectation and brings so much life and passion to the ministries that we encounter. He brings biblical knowledge to our team and does a great job of pointing our discussions back to the Lord. One of his past teammates said “I’m pretty sure by the time the race is over I’m either going to hate the phrase, “That’s so sick!” or it’s going to be embedded in my brain and I’ll just repeat it like a broken record.” After being on Hunter’s team for a week, I’m pretty sure the answer it’s both…
Together we are team Sozo.
You might be asking yourself- what the heck does Sozo mean? The literal meaning of sozo is ‘to save’ or salvation. It means true wellness, complete wholeness. To live in sozo is to live a full life, just like the life that we have been called to in Jesus. Our team wants to embody what it means to live a full life in Christ, we want to chase sozo together.
When our team was announced to the squad, it was spoken over us that we would be an adventurous team, bold and fun, and that we would be fighters. There is palpable energy surrounding this team, and the Lord has confirmed so many things for us already. When we gathered together to decided what we wanted to be known for, we talked about living in the sweet spot: living with sustainable passion for everything that we do. We want the lifestyle we are cultivating here on the race to be the same lifestyle that we take home with us for month 12 and 13 and 14 and forever. Sozo is not something that is meant to be lived in a season, it is a way of living, through all seasons, everyday, forever.
One last thing-
I was asked to serve as the treasurer for my team… I know those of you who know me well are having yourselves a good laugh at the thought of that (understandable. I laughed too- until I found out they were serious)… Y’all please pray for my team and for me… we’re going to need it. #MoMoneyMoProblems
Much Love,
Morgan
